The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) joins the sports fraternity in mourning the passing of former General Secretary, Mr. Macmen Luhana.

FAZ President Keith Mweemba has paid tribute to Mr. Luhana, remembering him as a dedicated servant of the game who left an indelible mark on Zambian football.

“On behalf of my executive and the entire football family, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the Luhana family on the demise of this great football personality,” said Mweemba. “While we mourn his passing, we are fortunate that he served the game with utmost dedication—as FAZ General Secretary, match commissioner, and in many other roles he held throughout his life.”

GOVERNMENT has since January this year rescued and repatriated seven women who fell victim to traffickers from a known Asian country.

And last year, Zambia recorded 41 human trafficking cases involving 194 victims and 46 suspects.

“These victims spanned all demographics—men, women, boys, and girls indicating that no one is immune to this crime,” Home Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary Dickson Matembo.

He noted that Zambia’s growing economy has also brought challenges, particularly in sectors such as construction, agriculture and the informal economy, where traffickers exploit labour demands to recruit vulnerable individuals for cheap labour.

In a speech read by director of anti-human trafficking Boris Mulenga, during the commemoration of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and the launch of the National Action Plan on TIP in Lusaka, Mr Matembo said that Government is implementing targeted measures to combat human trafficking and protect society’s most vulnerable.

“Our government is aware of the rising trend in internal trafficking, where individuals are lured from rural to urban areas with false promises of employment, education, or marriage, only to be exploited through forced labour, domestic servitude, or sexual exploitation,” Mr Matembo said.

VISITING Botswana President Duma Boko has called for Botswana and Zambia to transform their agriculture sectors into export-oriented, climate-smart economies as part of a broader strategy to unlock intra-African trade and pioneer regenerative, equitable growth models.

Speaking at the official opening of the 97th Agriculture and Commercial Show in Lusaka on Friday, President Boko underscored the need for the two countries to harness their shared agricultural potential and climate resilience strategies to drive regional transformation.

The theme for this year’s show, ‘Adapting to Climate Change’, provided a fitting backdrop for his message.

“Our collaboration is fortified by memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in livestock and crop production, agricultural research and development, climate-smart technologies, investment and trade. These are not mere papers, they are pathways to shared survival and prosperity,” President Boko said.
