Growth Investment Partners (GIP) Zambia has been launched as a groundbreaking investment platform dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the country. The initiative is backed by British International Investment (BII), the National Pension Scheme Authority - NAPSA and Swedfund International.

In a statement, British International Investment expressed pride in the launch of GIP Zambia, which begins with an anchor commitment of US$70 million. The platform will offer long-term, flexible, local currency capital to Zambian SMEs—an important step in addressing the long-standing financing gap that continues to limit the potential of many local businesses.

Established by BII, GIP Zambia goes beyond funding. It will also offer strategic business support to help SMEs expand, create jobs, and strengthen their role in Zambia’s economic development. A key part of the platform’s mission is to attract additional investment from both domestic and international sources, creating a scalable and sustainable ecosystem for enterprise growth.

The launch aligns with Zambia’s Vision 2030 and the 8th National Development Plan, reaffirming a commitment to private sector development and inclusive economic transformation.

Zambia’s financial sector is undergoing a meaningful digital shift. Nearly 70% of adults now access payment services – including bank accounts, mobile money and microfinance – marking steady progress toward a more integrated and inclusive payments ecosystem. With the government’s eGov modernisation efforts gaining momentum, the foundations are in place for connected, future-ready infrastructure. As digital adoption continues to rise, so too does the opportunity to strengthen and unify the country’s payments landscape.

Many banks, mobile money operators and fintech platforms have historically operated on separate systems, which makes seamless transactions across platforms challenging for consumers. This interoperability gap, once a major hurdle to inclusive digital growth, is now seen as a catalyst for innovation, and institutions across Zambia are actively collaborating on solutions to bridge systems and enable smoother, more inclusive digital transactions.

𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙄𝙨 𝙉𝙤 𝙇𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖 𝙇𝙪𝙭𝙪𝙧𝙮

“Consumers expect their financial tools to work across platforms - whether they are paying with a mobile wallet, withdrawing cash, or settling a bill via card,” explains Nicholas Munhenga, Business Development for EFT Corporation Zambia. “For banks and fintechs, enabling that kind of seamless experience requires integration at every layer.”

EFT Corporation supports this transition by providing a secure payments technology stack that enables integration between legacy banking systems, mobile wallets, POS terminals and third-party platforms. Rather than replacing core systems, EFT Corporation works with institutions to layer new capabilities - including SoftPOS, tokenisation and wallet-based acceptance - that meet consumers where they are.

Zambian banks and financial institutions are increasingly embracing the need for modern, adaptable infrastructure. Institutions are showing strong interest in SoftPOS and wallet-based payments as a way to expand acceptance without heavy hardware investment. EFT Corporation’s platform enables these offerings through APIs and scalable integrations that work with local requirements.

“Financial institutions are looking for practical pathways to modernisation – ones that allow them to retain control of their infrastructure while expanding capabilities,” adds Munhenga. “That’s where our approach differs. Mwabu Education Zambia has announced it will be working with VVOB in Zambia to digitise Catch Up training materials designed for teachers. This initiative aims to develop an innovative online/offline platform, allowing educators nationwide to easily access essential training resources whenever required.

The comprehensive digital platform will host materials for Catch Up mentors, provide an introductory module tailored for school leaders and Ministry of Education (MoE) officials, and include a refresher course to ensure continued professional development. By digitising these materials, VVOB seeks to reduce costs traditionally associated with face-to-face training, making the training process more sustainable and widely accessible.

This project will unfold through close collaboration among key stakeholders including VVOB, the MoE, the Teaching Council Zambia (TCZ), and Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Africa. Mwabu expects to present initial drafts to VVOB by October 2025. Following stakeholder feedback, three pilot approaches will be implemented in January 2026. The results of these pilots will inform final revisions before validation by the MoE.

This digital transition represents a pivotal development in teacher training, promoting continuous learning and efficiency in Zambia's educational sector.

For a long time, the narrative surrounding banks and fintechs was all about rivalry. It was a tale of nimble startups shaking up the traditional financial landscape. - Strategic investments and acquisitions: Financial institutions are increasingly looking to acquire or invest in fintechs to bolster their own digital capabilities.

These models illustrate a new reality. Banks and fintechs are no longer adversaries; they’re partners in progress.

Running from June 11 to September 15, 2025, the competition features a wide range of categories designed to suit different styles and stories. These include So Far So Close, Colour & Shade, Good Night, Faces, A Heartwarming World, Experimental Lab, Storyboard, and Action. Each category offers creators a unique opportunity to showcase their perspective, whether through a single powerful image or a series of clips.

Submissions can be made directly on the XMAGE website https://consumer.huawei.com/en/campaign/xmage/ or via Instagram using the hashtag and tagging . Entries must be captured using a Huawei phone, and participants can submit up to 30 entries. Post-processing is allowed, as long as EXIF data remains intact, and files must meet the size requirements, with photos under 30MB and videos under 400MB.

The judging process is rigorous. First, 1,000 finalists are shortlisted. From these, 100 entries, known as the XMAGE 100, are selected. Finally, three Grand Prize winners are awarded 10,000 US dollars each, while the remaining 97 winners receive 1,500 US dollars. All winners receive digital certificates, and the most exceptional works will be showcased across Huawei’s global platforms and exhibitions.
