LUSAKA ZAMBIA🇿🇲
BACKGROUND
The name Lusaka comes from Lusaaka, a Soli headman who settled the area where the modern city now stands. The settlement expanded around 1905 as a water stop on a railway line, and in 1935 it became the capital of the Northern Rhodesia colony.
LANGUAGE
The census indicates that Zambia's most widely spoken languages are Bemba (spoken by 35% of the population), Nyanja or Chewa (20%), Tonga (12%), and Lozi (6%). An urban variety of Nyanja (Chewa) is the lingua franca of the capital, Lusaka, used for communication between speakers of different languages.
The population of Lusaka is estimated to be 3 million as of the 2022 census.

Lusaka Province is divided into six districts: Chilanga District, Chongwe District, Kafue District, Luangwa District, Lusaka, and Rufunsa District.
