Barotse Boxing Academy Update
"We would like to inform the public as a whole that the BBA activities are yet to commerce, after the BBA Launch in mongu Western province stadium on the 30th October, 2021. It was resolved that BBA should start running in the events where our locals should start participating in boxing trainings so as to enable the Western Youths be part of the ongoing SADC boxing tournaments. This is so because we have to have trained boxers from here (Western PROVINCE) who should be part of the representation of the Boxing Federation of ZAMBIA as other provinces are always represented. BBA has been having meetings in reference to its operations. So far we have had four (4)meetings that seemed fruitful to the implementation. BBA chairperson Nyambe Chana has been to and from LUSAKA in connection with the progressions of the Academy as all the members of the BBA committee including the Treasurer Mr. MUBITA EMMANUEL have been tirelessly working hard including over time hours in trying to achieve all the necessities to start operations early next year. The W/PROVINCE sports coordinator is in the know of all proceedings as we keep in touch with his office to help facilitate the BBA activities, including the BRE representation. Will update you on what's latest soon enough."

Around 50years ago, Zambia had the 3rd largest black rhino🦏 population in Africa. The Luangwa Valley was home to around 4000 black rhinos.
Sadly ☹️ during the 80s and 90s Zambia's black rhino numbers declined rapidly from poaching and they headed towards extinction.
By 1998 the black rhino was officially declared extinct in Zambia.
Since 2003 the North Luangwa Conservation Program have managed to reintroduce a number of black rhinos back into the North Luangwa National Park and there is now a population of 34 which are actively breeding

The Great Elephant census of 2015/16 put our elephant population at just under 22,000 individuals

The aerial survey covered over 21 million acres of Zambia.

The survey area comprised of national parks and some GMA’s. Key areas included Kafue and Sioma Ngwezi National Parks, the Luangwa Valley and Lower Zambezi.

Kafue and Luangwa were stable with a slight increase, but Lower Zambezi and Sioma saw a decline in numbers.

Additional protection initiatives may need to be intensified in areas where the elephant population is facing more significant threats.

For comparison Botswana has over 120,000 elephants and Zimbabwe has over 80,000 Elephants.
