Livingstone–Sesheke Road: An Urgent Call for Temporary Intervention

By Kelly Muwana

The two trucks seen in this picture were trapped in the sand yesterday, 18 August 2026, on the deplorable Livingstone–Sesheke Road, completely blocking both lanes and disrupting the movement of traffic.

We respectfully appeal to the Government and relevant road authorities to urgently undertake temporary remedial works at this particular spot by improving the road surface with suitable gravel or other appropriate material to restore safe passage while permanent rehabilitation is being pursued.

The Livingstone–Sesheke Road is a critical transport corridor and one of the shortest main routes connecting the Port of Walvis Bay in Namibia with Lusaka, Zambia, while also facilitating the movement of goods between Southern, Central and East African countries.

This route is vital to regional trade. Immediate temporary intervention is therefore necessary to keep traffic moving and prevent more trucks from becoming stranded.

The current state of the deplorable Livingstone–Sesheke Road 🇿🇲 | 18 August 2026

This is the reality motorists and truck drivers are facing on this important road. The poor condition is causing delays, increasing vehicle maintenance costs and making the journey difficult and dangerous. We hope the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate this road will bring lasting results. Zambia deserves better infrastructure. 🛣️🇿🇲
