*KABALE SECONDARY SCHOOL PLEA: A NEW CLASSROOM BLOCK TO UNLOCK POTENTIAL IN LUBAMBALA WARD (TAZARA)*
22 JANUARY 2026
Kabale Secondary School in Mpika, the sole secondary school serving a vast catchment area, is at a critical juncture. With the introduction of free education, the school is bracing for a surge in enrollment, but it's a challenge it can't meet with its current infrastructure.
The numbers are telling: one school, serving an entire ward, with classroom blocks that are stretched to the limit. Overcrowding is more than just a logistical headache – it's a barrier to learning. Teachers struggle to mark books, identify students needing extra help, and deliver quality education amidst the chaos.
Last year, the school received desks from the CDF initiative, a gesture that brought some relief. But the pressing need now is space – a new classroom block to breathe life into the learning environment.
The situation on the ground is dire: Form 1 students are cramped, with 5 classes sharing limited space in the afternoons. With only 14 classrooms to accommodate learners from Grade 8 to 12, resources are thinly stretched – each classroom is accommodating around 70 pupils.
Despite these challenges, the school achieved a commendable 93% pass rate for examination classes this year – a testament to the discipline and dedication of the learners, and the resilience of the teachers.
A new classroom block would be a game-changer, lessening the pupil/teacher ratio and giving teachers a fighting chance to teach and students a chance to learn, free from the constraints of overcrowded classrooms.
"This is the cry of Lubambala Ward residents, particularly Tazara compound," says the community. Local authorities, here's a chance to make a tangible difference. Grant Kabale Secondary School this much-needed classroom block, and watch as it transforms not just the school, but the future of Lubambala Ward.
And in the spirit of free education, the school is embracing learners of all ages , the school enrolled Chola Jennipher, 42, a Form 1 student with 7 kids of her own! "Thank you, President Hakainde Hichilema, for giving us free education," says the community. Let's give a school a classroom block it deserves.
