‎Mpongwe District Health office receives new Ambulance

‎By Veronica Bwalya

‎Mpongwe District Health office has received a new ambulance under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), marking a significant milestone in the district's health sector.

‎The ambulance was officially handed over to the district health office at a ceremony attended by Mpongwe Member of Parliament (MP) Gregory Ngowani and other senior government officials.

‎Ngowani said the health sector will continue to be a key beneficiary of governments support, while also promising that government will provide vehicles to other sectors such as agriculture and education.

‎Meanwhile, District Health Director, Dr. Henry Silavwe, expressed gratitude to the government for the ambulance indicating that it will help reduce fatalities and improve emergency response.

‎With nearly thirty health facilities in the district, the new ambulance is expected to make a significant impact.

‎At the same function, Ngowani announced that government will next year start working on the Mpongwe -Machiya road up to Ngabwe.

Former Mpongwe DC Keith Maila writes

Dear Fellow Lambas,

For many years, as a people, we have been sidelined when it comes to representation in Government positions.

Currently, we only have:

1 Provincial Minister

1 Permanent Secretary

3 District Commissioners (out of 10 districts in our Province)

This situation is not unique to the current UPND Government—it has been the case under successive Governments. The only notable exception was during the late President Mwanawasa’s MMD era, when Lambas were given more recognition.

Even then, despite having a Lamba as Defense Minister and later a Permanent Secretary for Defense under PF, we failed to use these opportunities to employ and uplift our own children.

We even produced a Secretary to Cabinet—the most influential office in terms of recruitment—but still, we failed to prioritize our own.

This reality tells us one thing: we are not united as a people. Unlike other tribes that rally behind their own, we often fight and pull each other down.

If we want the Lamba tribe to be truly recognized, we must begin with unity, love, and support for one another.

We are fortunate today to have a listening President.

For example, when our Chiefs lobbied for the Provincial Health Director to be given to a Lamba, it was granted. This shows that with unity, other positions such as DEBS, DHD, and DACO can also be secured for our people.

Not all require the President’s intervention—our Provincial Minister is more than capable of handling such matters, but he needs our collective support.

Even in the case of the transferred DEBS, let us ask ourselves: was the Minister properly informed, or are we only assuming? We must always ensure he has the necessary backing to perform effectively.

We are very fortunate to have our own as Provincial Minister. Let us rally behind him and work together as one people.

Unity is the only way we will achieve recognition and progress as Lambas.
