Floods Hit Lundazi District, Houses, Bridges and Crop Fields Submerged.

By White Luhanga

Floods have hit Lundazi District, leaving several houses, bridges and crop fields submerged in water.

In a telephone interview, Lundazi District Commissioner Majory Banda described the situation as severe, stating that some crop fields have been damaged and some houses washed away.

The District Commissioner has urged residents affected by the floods to report their situations to her office.

Ms. Banda explained that these reports will help her office know the areas affected by the floods following the heavy rainfall experienced in the district.

She said the area has been receiving heavy rainfall since last Thursday.

Meanwhile, the District Commissioner said more details will be provided as she remains on the ground assessing the affected areas and determining the full extent of the damage caused by the floods.

Fallen Trucker Returned Home via Sakanya
By Chembe Mbale
Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI has urged Zambian truck drivers to adopt safety measures, including travelling in groups, when crossing into the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
Mr. TAYALI says the approach, commonly used by drivers of other nationalities, could improve security and reduce the risk of attacks while operating in the DRC.
He has also assured Zambian drivers that the Government is engaging the Congolese authorities to improve safety and put an end to the attacks targeting truck drivers.
The Minister was speaking in an interview with journalists at Sakanya Border in Ndola before receiving the body of JOSEPH CHIVANGA, a Zambian truck driver who went missing and was later found dead in the DRC earlier this month.

A 24-YEAR-OLD maid of Lusaka's Ng'ombe who was last year jailed seven years for terminating an eight-month pregnancy has appealed against what she terms an unfair conviction and sentence.
A magistrate jailed Violet Zulu for terminating an eight-month pregnancy after the man allegedly responsible for it refused to have anything to do with her or the unborn baby.
The mother of two-the youngest 12 months-was jailed after pleading guilty to aborting her pregnancy and pleaded for leniency, saying her children will need her care since the person responsible for the pregnancy rejected it.
But the magistrate jailed the convict, who had no legal representation at the time, for the prevalent offence which the court would not condone.
Dissatisfied with the verdict, Ms Zulu, through her lawyers-Musa Dudia & Company, filed an appeal before the Lusaka High Court challenging her conviction and sentence.
In her eight grounds of appeal, the appellant contends that the trial court erred in law and fact failing to inform her of the right to independent legal representation before, during and after taking plea.
“The learned trial magistrate erred in law and fact by failing to take necessary steps to ensure that the appellant understood every element of the charge and consequences of pleading guilty to the charge,” the document reads.
Ms Zulu adds that the magistrate also erred in law and fact by convicting her on her own plea of guilty to the charge-three months after she lost the pregnancy.
“The learned trail magistrate erred in law and fact by failing to warn the unrepresented appellant that the offence she was charged with carried a long custodial sentence”.
The magistrate is accused of having erred in law and fact when she failed to inform the unrepresented appellant that there exists lawful grounds for terminating

POLICE PROBE SHOCK MURDER OF JUVENILE GIRL IN CHOMA

Police in Choma are investigating the murder of a female juvenile identified only as Cecilia of Macha Road Compound, whose body was discovered on December 16, 2025.

In a statement, today, Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says the incident was reported to Choma Central Police after the victim’s younger brother found her unresponsive upon returning home from church.

Police officers who rushed to the scene confirmed the incident and secured the area for investigations.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the deceased was a Grade Eleven pupil at Choma Secondary School who was spending the school holidays at her mother’s residence.

Mr. Namalongo says a male suspect identified only as Kelvin was later traced to Choma General Hospital, where he was found in a critical condition and has been placed under police guard as the main suspect.

He adds that the body of the deceased has been deposited at Choma General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination, while investigations into the matter continue.
