The Zambia Army has instructed its female Officers and Soldiers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and personal conduct, both on and off duty.
Speaking at Arakan Barracks during a meeting of the Zambia Army Women Corps (ZAWC) yesterday, 11 November, Army Headquarters Garrison Commander Brigadier General (Dr) Golden Ng’andwe emphasised the importance of integrity and pride in the uniform.
Brig Gen (Dr) Ng’andwe reminded the Women’s Corps that their appearance and behaviour reflect the honour and legacy of the Zambia Army.
Guidelines were reiterated on dress, hairstyle, makeup, and general conduct.
The Garrison Commander stressed that hair must be compatible with military head dress, while makeup and nails should remain modest and non-distracting.
“Your uniform, hair, makeup and nails must show discipline at all times, on and off duty, because you can be called for duty anytime,” he said.
Speaking at the same meeting, Zambia Army Legal Services Director General Colonel Mwizukanji Namwawa cautioned against fraternisation, noting that it can lead to misunderstanding and compromise discipline.
Col Namwawa reminded personnel that organisation and order are essential qualities for military service.
And Director Catering Colonel Agness Mfwaya reinforced the importance of adhering to uniform regulations, including maintaining ‘kneel level and fit’ attire and collar-length hair that does not pose safety risks.
“We want a professional, united, cohesive, disciplined and respected ZAWC,” Col Mfwaya stated.
Health and wellness also featured prominently in the discussions.
Defence Force Medical Services Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Colonel Mulima Litia warned against the use of harmful skin chemicals, citing their link to cancer.
Col Litia encouraged regular cancer screening and proactive health care.
The ZAWC is taking steps to enhance professionalism among its ranks, with plans to publish a comprehensive booklet outlining the dress code for female Officers and Soldiers.
Through the Zambia Army Public Relations directorate, ZAWC aims to provide a visual guide that will serve as a reference point for all female personnel, promoting uniformity and adherence to the prescribed dress standards.
