Today's Message: The Wife
Scripture Reference: Genesis 24:1-67
Abraham was now very old, and he wanted to find a wife for his son, Isaac. He called his chief servant and made him promise to go to Abraham’s homeland and find a wife for Isaac there—not from the Canaanite women where they lived.
The servant agreed. He took ten camels and many gifts and traveled to the city of Nahor, where Abraham’s family lived.
When the servant reached the city, he prayed to God, saying:
"Lord, please show kindness to my master, Abraham. May the woman who offers me water and also offers to water my camels be the one You have chosen for Isaac."
Before he even finished praying, Rebekah came to the well with a jar on her shoulder. She was beautiful and kind. The servant asked for a little water, and Rebekah gave him water and also offered to get water for his camels—just as the servant had prayed!
The servant was amazed. He gave her jewelry and asked whose daughter she was. She said she was the granddaughter of Nahor, Abraham’s brother! The servant thanked God for leading him to the right family.
Rebekah ran home and told her family everything. Her brother Laban came out to meet the servant and welcomed him. They prepared food, but the servant refused to eat until he told his story—how God led him to Rebekah.
Then he asked if Rebekah could come back with him to be Isaac’s wife. Her family said, “This is from the Lord. Take her to be Isaac’s wife as God has said.” Rebekah agreed to go.
The next morning, Rebekah and her maids left with the servant. When they arrived, Isaac was in the field. When Rebekah saw him, she covered herself with a veil. The servant told Isaac all that had happened. Isaac brought Rebekah into his tent, and she became his wife. Isaac loved her, and he was comforted after his mother Sarah’s death.
