WHAT ZRA WILL DO TO YOU , IF THEY FIND OUT YOU HAVE NO RECORDS

I keep telling people that ZRA is gearing up , that data science department of 32 people that was advertised is not a joke . They will be running complex data analytics that will fish out people that owe money .

If a ZRA officer visits your premises and asks you for your accounting books and you fail to produce them you will be charged K6,000. Then maybe you have books here and there and your records are incomplete you will be charged K6,000 still . If the ZRA officer gives you a period in which to deliver the accounts and you don’t meet it , you will be charged another K6000. Meanwhile you will be charged K600 per day , till you submit the records . We are talking about 12000 for being found wanting .. Either way you put it , you can avoid the late delivery penalty but who are you kidding , if you haven't done your books in 3 years , you will need more than a week to do them . THEN my friend , ZRA is not stupid , they are not just going to accept any records you produce . They will assess them diligently and if they are inaccurate or you are trying to do a ka Michael Scofield on them , they will charge you penalties for fraud and negligence .

Let's just say by a hair's breath you submit 100% accurate records . Now they will hammer you penalties for late submission or inaccurate submission . for turnover tax late submission is 75 kwacha per month not paid , it seems like a little until you see the compounding effect it has . In a year its about 10,000 ( this is because the penalty for the particular month will keep charging until you pay it ) if its 3 years we can even reach 40,000 and these are just late penalty fees , you havent paid the actual tax yet . lets say you make 500,000 per year and now 3 years is 1.5 m kwacha , apply 4% on 1.5 m that is 60,000 . that 60 pin now apply the penalty for late payment which is bank of zambia rate 5% plus 2% discount rate equals = 7% per month muntu wandi for 36 frickin months ! to simplify it lets just multiply by 20 months to negate the earlier balances ra ra ra so ( 7% x20 months x 60,000) = 84,000 . At this point you are owing K196,000 ( 12,000 filing + 40,000 late sub + 60,000 tax + 84,000 interest payment ) . Mind you , ZRA is not stupid , it knows you might run , you might liquidate or do something clever so it will freeze your accounts , it will instruct your major customers to redirect payments owed to you to it . Here we are just talking about simple turnover tax , what more corporate tax , nama vat stories etc ,,, apo its just to runaway lol

I hope I have scared you enough to reach out to me , to give you a compliance and health check . The secret is to not attract their attention . There are so many TPINA out there TO single you out , they only follow people not compliant .

LUSAKA REMAINS MOST EXPENSIVE CITY TO LIVE IN DESPITE K52 DROP IN FOOD BASKET

By Cecilia Chiluba

Lusaka has remained the most expensive city to live in, despite recording a K52.25 reduction in the cost of living for a family of five for the month of March 2025.

According to latest data released by the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR), the cost of living for a family of five in Lusaka reduced from K11,599.12 in February 2025 to K11,546.87 in March 2025.3.27

This is compared to other towns like Chinsali and Mongu whose cost of living currently stand at K5,991.40 and K 6,127.18, respectively.

JCTR Executive Director, Fr. Daniel Mutale said in a statement that although the latest figure for Lusaka represents a marginal reduction of K52.25 compared to February 2025, it still shows that the overall cost of living remains high and is increasing beyond affordability of a dignified life.

Fr. Mutale has observed that the March 2025 Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket (BNNB) findings, when compared to the March 2024 basket, which stood at K10, 701.13, shows an increasing trend in the cost of living.

He notes that the total cost of essential non-food items in March 2025, rose to K6,451.27 from K6,321.87 in February 2025, largely due to an increase in the price of charcoal, which has now reached K562.50 per 90kg bag, compared to K497 in February.

He explains that these fluctuations in charcoal prices are primarily attributed to seasonal factors, such as the heavy rains that have impacted the production and transportation of this commodity.

Fr. Mutale states that the total cost of food items decreased modestly to K5,095.59 from K5,277.25. “

He says marginal price decreases were observed in commodities such as kapenta, which dropped to K399.64 from K491.26 for 1kg and vegetables, which reduced to K643.53 from K 701.81 for a 40kg bag.

He has further revealed that JCTR’s preliminary data from the Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket survey, conducted across 12 of the 16 towns, indicate that the average cost of living for the first quarter of 2025 stands at K8,024.44.

According to the preliminary data, Lusaka recorded the highest average cost of living at K11,315.52, while Chinsali had the lowest at K5,991.40, Choma K6,301.70, Kabwe K 8,723.86, Livingstone K9,514.32, Luanshya K8,175.90, Mansa K7,641.27, Mazabuka K7,757.05, Mongu K 6,127.18, Monze K6,701.98, Mpika K8,117.91 and Ndola K9,916.19.
