Stakeholder Engagement Held Ahead of the 59th Zambia International Trade Fair

The Trade Fair Trust has successfully held a stakeholder engagement meeting with exhibitors ahead of the highly anticipated 59th Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF).

The meeting took place at the Rex Hall within the Trade Fair Grounds and was attended by both local and international exhibitors.

In her remarks, Trade Fair Trust Chief Executive Officer Hellen Kalumbi described the ZITF as the cornerstone of Zambia’s trade and economic growth. She emphasized the importance of collaboration and called on all stakeholders to actively contribute towards making this year’s event a success.

Ms. Kalumbi also issued a stern warning regarding the sale of alcohol during the event. She reminded exhibitors that the Trade Fair Grounds are an alcohol-free zone and strictly prohibited the sale of any alcoholic beverages during the fair.

And Ndola City Council Public Relations Manager Rebecca Mushota called on exhibitors who will be selling food to ensure their handlers are certified.

She also asked that all exhibitors maintain high standards of hygiene.

The 59th ZITF promises to be a vibrant platform for trade, networking, and innovation under a safe and family-friendly environment.

BWANA MKUBWA RESIDENTS PLEAD WITH SIKALUBYA TO RECONSIDER ELECTION DECISION

By Staff Reporter

Some residents of Bwana Mkubwa constituency have appealed to Bryan Sikalubya to rescind his decision that he will not contest in the 2026 elections.

Speaking to journalists, the residents implored Mr. Sikalubya to reconsider his position and not endorse the candidature of the incumbent independent Member of Parliament, Warren Mwambazi, on the United party for National Development-UPND ticket.

The angered residents say they have received the message with shock, adding that if Mr. Sikalubya does not change his decision, they will not even vote in 2026.

They have bemoaned the lack of development in the constituency, as they thought Mr. Sikalubya would help them once elected.

Meanwhile, Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Warren Mwambazi has welcomed the endorsement by his former opponent but has clarified that he remains independent and that he will continue working with the government to ensure that he fosters development for his area.

On Saturday, Mr. Sikalubya held a press briefing at the Ndola Swimming pool, where he announced that he had endorsed Mr. Mwambazi's candidature, saying that the decision was a personal one.

RECOGNIZING WORKERS' RIGHTS KEY TO GROWTH, SAYS LABOUR DAY ORGANIZER

By Steward Simutowe

Ndola District Labour Day Organizing Committee Co-chairperson Isaac Mwale says denying workers the opportunity to celebrate their day is a lack of respect for workers' rights.

Speaking in an interview on Radio Chimwemwe today, Mr. Mwale who is also Zambia Congress of Trade Unions-ZCTU Ndola District Chairperson, stated that Labour Day is a very crucial occasion for workers to reflect on their contributions to the economy and demand better working conditions.

He has implored stakeholders to prioritize workers' welfare and recognize their role in national development.

Mr. Mwale adds that celebrations like Labour Day are essential for boosting worker morale and fostering a sense of unity among employees across various sectors.

He emphasizes that when workers feel recognized and valued, they are happier and more productive, which contributes to the company's growth and success.

Ndola will commemorate International Labour Day 2025 on May 1st at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, under the theme "Shaping Zambia's Future of Work through Home-grown Solutions for Inclusive Economic Growth".

*Erratic Water Supply in Southern part of Ndola*

Ndola, Sunday, April 20, 2025 — kafubu water and Sanitation Company limited regrets to inform the general public of an interruption in water supply affecting the southern part of Ndola. The disruption has been caused by a massive leakage resulting from a malfunctioning control valve within the pump house at the Kafubu Water Treatment Plant. This incident posed a significant risk of flooding the pump chamber.

While initial repairs were promptly carried out, Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company Limited (KWSC) has since replaced the faulty valve to secure the facility. Following the valve replacement, only one stage of the Treatment Plant as opposed to two is currently operational due to a fault on the control pannels for the second stage. KWSC has engaged specialised experts with necessary equipment to address the fault, and works are currently ongoing and expected to be completed by tomorrow 21st April 2025.

KWSC remains committed to restoring normal water supply as swiftly as possible and is working closely with other stakeholders to address challenges that have affected the Plant.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this situation has caused.
