UPGRADE NDOLA-MKUSHI ROAD TO BITUMINOUS STANDARD, K***A APPEALS TO GOVERNMENT

By Steward Simutowe

Mkushi-based politician Topson K***a is appealing to the government to consider upgrading the gravel road between Ndola and Mkushi to a bituminous standard.

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, Mr. K***a disclosed that currently, people from neighboring Tanzania and Zambia's Northern, Muchinga and Central provinces are using the long route to Kapiri-Mponshi and then connecting to Ndola, adding about 250 kilometers to their journey, when they could use the shortcut of about 130 kilometers that already exists.

Mr. K***a believes that once the Ndola-Mkushi road is done, it will reduce travel time and ease congestion on the Ndola-Kapiri-Mponshi road if the shortcut is used.

Mr. K***a notes that the road will have a toll gate to allow revenue collection and that the road between Kapiri-Mponshi and Mkushi will have a longer lifespan because heavy trucks heading to Kapiri will now be using the shortcut.

He is calling on the government to urgently construct this road because some motorists are already using it and avoiding paying toll fees on the toll gate between Kapiri and Mkushi on the other route, resulting in lost revenue that the government can recover.

WAIVE TAXES ON AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT, FARMERS APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT

By Steward Simutowe

Save Zambia Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative, has implored the government to consider waiving off taxes on agricultural equipment.

In an exclusive interview with radio chimwemwe news, Cooperative president Fredrick Bukali says agricultural equipment, such as solar, are expensive due to the taxes attached, making it difficult for most small-scale farmers to afford.

Mr. Bukali says that during the drought that hit Zambia in the 2023/2024 farming season, some farmers would have managed to buy and save their crops if only agricultural equipment was cheaper.

He adds that once taxes are waived off or reduced, those importing equipment will benefit, adding that farming will be more affordable, and eventually, prices of commodities will reduce.

FIBOBE COUNCILLOR URGES CITIZENS TO REGISTER AS VOTERS DURING MASS VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE

By Steward Simutowe

Ndola's Fibobe ward councilor, Simon Muleba has urged citizens to register as voters during the mass voter registration exercise.

Mr. Muleba tells Radio Chimwemwe news in an interview that a voter's card is crucial as it gives citizens an opportunity to either maintain or change leaders of their choice to represent them at various levels.

He has stressed that some leaders have done well in their various roles adding that for them to be maintained, it can only be done when citizens are registered as voters.

Mr Muleba has since appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to ensure that its system is highly improved and prepared to accommodate people who will be registering during the mass voter registration exercise.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia is set to conduct a mass voter registration exercise from October 13 to November 11, 2025, targeting about 3.5 million eligible voters nationwide.

NCP COPPERBELT CHAIRMAN CLARIFIES NCP REMAINS IN TONSE ALLIANCE AND TAKES TEMPORARY BACK SEAT

By Steward Simutowe

National Congress Party Copperbelt Chairman, Gilbert Musonda, has clarified that the party has not pulled out of the Tonse Alliance, contrary to reports in some media outlets, and the party has temporarily taken a back seat to prepare for its convention.

In a statement issued to Radio Chimwemwe news on Monday, Mr. Musonda explained that the party's structures in the province are not aware of any withdrawal and assured that the decision is aimed at allowing the party to organize itself in readiness for the 2026 elections.

He emphasized the need for the party to hold a convention as required by Zambian law, ensuring the party's solidity as the elections approach.

Mr. Musonda expressed disappointment over the spread of false information, attributing it to the government's alleged tactics to suppress the opposition.

He assured that once the party's preparations are complete, it will resume its activities in the alliance and inform the nation accordingly.

The NCP Copperbelt Chairman called for patience from party members and the general public, stating that any changes will be communicated through official channels.
