POLICE have launched investigations into a video currently circulating on various social media platforms that allegedly shows celebrated athlete Rhoda Njobvu engaged in a s*x act.

The video in question depicts Ms Njobvu and an unidentified woman involved in indecent conduct, sparking widespread public concern.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the possession, production, and circulation of obscene materials is a criminal offence under Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

“As investigations are actively underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this video, we urge the general public to refrain from circulating or downloading such material. Any person found in breach of the law will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga also warned the public to desist from engaging in such vices, as they not only violate the law but also offend public morality and decency.

He added that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.

The country has recently seen an increase in the circulation of obscene materials, with the recent case involving filmmaker David Kazadi and model Mwaka Halwindi, who are expected to appear in court.

CONSTRUCTION OF KASOMBO ACROW BRIDGE IN KABOMPO DISTRICT COMPLETED

The construction of the Kasombo ACROW Bridge in Kabompo District in North-Western Province has been completed.

The Road Development Agency (RDA) in May 2023 embarked on the project to construct Kasombo ACROW Bridge using Zambia National Service (ZNS) as the contractor.

The scope of works includes but is not limited to the following:

1. Site clearing;
2. Construction of box culverts on the access road;
3. Construction of two reinforced concrete abutments;
4. Erosion protection works;
5. Construction of approach embankments;
6. Assembly of the prefabricated steel superstructures;
7. Launching of the prefabricated steel superstructures; and
8. Ancillary works.

The bridge has since been opened to traffic.

POLICE ARREST 7 SUSPECTS OF ARMED ROBBERIES, MURDERS IN LILONGWE

Malawi Police Service has arrested at least seven suspects thought to be behind a series of robberies and murder incidences in Lilongwe.

The seven suspects include a woman. They were paraded at Area 30 Police Headquarters in Lilongwe. The police said the suspects were operating from Mangochi with the woman in Lilongwe identifying potential and easy targets.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya said police will continue with efforts to arrest all the suspected criminals as one way of creating a conducive environment for businesses in the country.

According to Kalaya, the arrested suspects include those involved in the killing of a Chinese national at Njewa where they went away with K30 million as well as those behind the theft of K35 million from a Chinese national resident in Area 3.

He said police have since recovered two fi****ms and two vehicles used in robberies.

"Let me commend the cordial working relationship that exists between us the police and the public in law enforcement," Kalaya said.

Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to continue tipping them on any criminal activities that may be taking place in their localities.

PF MPs ASKED TO RESIGN TO TRIGGER GENERAL ELECTION

NATIONAL Democratic Congress-NDC President, Saboi Imboela, has urged Patriotic Front-PF Members of Parliament to consider resigning to cause a Constitutional Cris!s that will warrant a General election if the party continues to be harassed by government.

Imboela notes that the continued harassm£nt of the PF by those in the ruling United Party for National Development-UPND is unacceptable and an afront to democracy.

She says the PF is too strong a party to be treated in the manner currently obtaining, with their Secretariat taken over by State Police amidst leadership claims by Miles Sampa.

Imboela is confident that if an election was to occur in this instance, the UPND would lose as members of the public now know their leadership style which has failed to deliver to the needs of the Country.

She describes the UPND as heartless, clueless and with no regard for anyone, remarking that they won elections in 2021 through propaganda and promises based on l!es.

Imboela fears that if the PF is being harass£d in the manner they are, no opposition political party in the Country is safe, hence the need to stand up for democracy.
