To: Honourable Lufeyo Ngoma, MP for Lumezi

I write as a concerned citizen and teacher, appealing for urgent, strategic development in Lumezi.

Our greatest challenge is education. With over 120 primary schools but only one secondary boarding school, progression to Grade 8 is severely hindered. Many learners face unsafe long walks or drop out entirely. We must strategically invest the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to build and expand local boarding schools and skills centres.

This educational crisis is worsened by our terrible roads, which delay emergency services, increase costs for farmers, and inflate prices for all. Road rehabilitation is a foundational need for any progress.

A related critical gap is the lack of a local fuel station, which risks lives in medical emergencies and raises costs for farmers and businesses. Providing this basic service would improve safety and stimulate the economy.

Finally, we must strengthen our economic backbone: to***co farming. Strategic CDF support should improve feeder roads, storage, and technical assistance for farmers to secure household incomes.

Honourable Ngoma, Lumezi needs leadership that prioritizes these interconnected issues. By focusing CDF and advocacy on education, roads, fuel access, and agriculture, you can transform our constituency's future. I trust in your commitment to this practical, people-centered development.

Respectfully,

Lemekani The Seed
Teacher.

Police Probe Discovery of Decomposed Body in Lumezi

Police in Lumezi District have launched investigations into a case of sudden and unnatural death after the discovery of a decomposed body of an unidentified man in a bush near Lumezi Boarding School in Chief Zumwandaโ€™s area.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the development, saying the incident was reported to Lumezi Police Post around 12:25 hours on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Mr. Mweemba said the report was made by Mr. Zedeke Kasalu, 64, Head Teacher of Lumezi Boarding School, who informed police that the body of a man believed to be between 40 and 50 years old was found in a decomposed state near the school premises.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a local resident identified as W***y Chikoza, 45, of Lumezi Stores, went into the bush around 11:00 hours to cut sticks for fencing when he noticed a strong odor. Upon checking, he discovered the body and immediately alerted the school head, who then reported the matter to police.

Police officers who visited the scene confirmed that the body was severely decomposed and not suitable for transportation or physical examination. The remains were buried at the same spot, and the grave has been marked to facilitate further investigations.

Commissioner Mweemba said an inquiry file has since been opened as police work to establish the deceasedโ€™s identity and determine the cause of death.

Permanent Secretary (Administration), Dr. Gabriel Pollen, said the CDF continues to play a critical role in decentralized development and community empowerment, enabling citizens to drive projects that address their specific needs.

He noted that the Fund is currently supporting:

โ€ขInfrastructure projects such as schools, health centres, feeder roads, and water systems.
โ€ขEconomic empowerment programmes through loans and grants for small-scale entrepreneurs.
โ€ขEducation support via bursary schemes for vulnerable learners.
โ€ขImproved service delivery through procurement of earthmoving equipment and other resources for local authorities.

Dr. Pollen expressed confidence that the release of these funds will further strengthen the capacity of local authorities to deliver meaningful development. โ€œWe are elated to note that a number of developmental projects have already been completed, while others are underway across the country,โ€ he said.

The Ministry reaffirmed Governmentโ€™s commitment to promoting equitable development, accountability, and citizen participation, while bridging the rural-urban divide and improving the quality of life for all Zambians.
