CHIRUNDU REGISTERS MORE THAN 3,500 VOTERS AHEAD OF THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION

Chirundu District, 28 October 2025 — Chirundu District has so far registered a total of 3,642 voters ahead of the 2026 General Election. Out of this number, 2,258 are updates, while 1,384 represent new registrations across Chirundu Constituency.

Following the launch of the 2025 Mass Registration of Voters by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), District Registration Officer (DRO) Embassy Cheembo today conducted inspections of some voter registration centres in Chirundu District, Southern Province.

Mr Cheembo explained that updates include individuals who were previously registered but have changed their polling stations or relocated from one area to another within the district. He emphasised that the mass voter registration exercise aims to capture eligible voters and ensure that all details are correct and up to date.

The DRO, who also serves as Chirundu Town Council Secretary, has urged citizens to register early to avoid last-minute congestion, noting that the Commission has a limited timeframe to complete the exercise.

The mass registration exercise, which runs until 11th November 2025, is being conducted across all 156 constituencies countrywide and targets to register about 3.5 million eligible voters nationwide.

CAMEROON'S 92-YEAR-OLD PRESIDENT WINS CONTROVERSIAL EIGHTH TERM

President Paul Biya announced as winner of Cameroon's heavily disputed presidential election.

Biya, who at 92 is the world's oldest head of state, will now serve an eighth consecutive term in office - he first came to power in 1982.

Opposition leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary had already declared himself the winner saying the Constitutional Council will announce a tainted result.

Streets in Bamenda city in the English-speaking west are deserted amid fears of unrest.

At least four people have been killed on Sunday in clashes with the security forces in the commercial hub of Douala.

Opposition supporters have defied a ban on protests, saying the ruling party wants to "steal victory" from them.
