UPND in Siavonga warns contractors against substandard works
The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Siavonga has issued a stern warning to local contractors securing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects through dubious means and delivering substandard work.
UPND Siavonga District Chairman Chequevera Ng’andu condemned contractors who bypass proper procedures to win contracts, only to produce poor-quality results or abandon projects altogether.
Ng’andu highlighted that some contractors, who repeatedly secure CDF projects are allegedly engaged in corrupt practices.
“We are aware of contractors who win CDF projects through shortcuts without following correct procedures, which may amount to corruption,” he stated.
Chequevera noted that such contractors often deliver shoddy work, fail to meet required standards or abandon projects, leaving communities underserved.
He emphasized that no UPND leader, official, or member should exploit their position to misappropriate public funds.
“We worked hard for the party to form government. It is our responsibility to defend the interests of the party and the people. We must not tarnish the party’s name through illegal activities or shortcuts,” he said, warning that those who believe they are untouchable will face legal consequences.
Ng’andu also addressed the issue of contractors who blackmail elected officials by claiming to have “suffered for the party” to justify their actions.
He called on elected leaders in the district to stand firm against such individuals and protect public resources.
“These so called wrongdoers are good at blackmailing leaders, but they do not love the party. If they did, they would support the vision of the President and the party, not engage in wrongdoing,” he remarked.
Ng’andu urged elected leaders to defend the interests of their constituents against “political vultures” who exploit CDF opportunities for personal gain.
He also appealed to community members to hold contractors accountable, stating, “Let CDF benefit all, not just the same people. Accountability begins with you, the community.”
