LUNGU’S BODY AT RISK OF DETERIORATION, FUNERAL PARLOUR WARNS

By Darius Choonya

A South African funeral parlour holding former President Edgar Lungu’s body has warned that prolonged storage increases the risk of deterioration, which could begin at any time.

In a letter to the Zambian government and the Lungu family, Two Mountains Burial Services has urged all parties to finalise arrangements promptly to protect the dignity of the deceased.

The company says it is considering consulting a pathologist or embalmer for expert advice on the effects of extended storage.

It has asked that the government and family confirm whether they will cover any associated fees.

The parlour notes that while the body has been embalmed, extended storage , even of an embalmed body can eventually lead to signs of deterioration.

However, it assures that President Lungu’s body remains well preserved according to standard procedures, with no visible signs of decay.

Former President Edgar Lungu passed away on June 5, 2025, in Pretoria, South Africa. The debate over his final resting place, however, remains unresolved.

We can pick lessons from the recent commissioning of over 400 ZNS officer cadets, where Lt. Habwela Hichilema, son of President Hakainde Hichilema, was one of them.

Unlike the privilege many would expect being appointed or given opportunities without going through the normal procedure, Habwela trained like every other recruit, trench digging, long marches, bush drills, discipline, eating the same food, and sharing the same space as his colleagues. No special treatment.

It’s even more interesting to learn that he was given a training name so no one knew his true identity until commissioning. An incredible act of fairness.

This is more than Habwela’s achievement. It reflects the values his parents instilled humility, discipline, and service. It also reveals the leadership of President Hichilema, a father and leader who chose not to shield his son from sacrifice, but to raise him like any other Zambian youth.

The first lesson I picked is that true leadership begins at home, with the values we teach our children. Second lesson is that struggles build character, shielding children from everything weakens them. The third lesson is that integrity matters, fairness must apply to everyone, even our own.

Too often, leaders use office for privilege. This choice instead stands as a symbol of fairness, patriotism, and integrity.

Parents and fellow citizens, let’s remember, leadership is not about titles or comfort it is about living the values we expect of others.

Thank you, President Hichilema, for reminding us of this truth.

HON. SIALUBALO DONATES BUILDING MATERIALS WORTH K14,400 TO NZENGA COMMUNITY SCHOOL By sinazongwe Times | Sinazongwe District | 19th August 2025

Sinazongwe continues to witness a wave of servant leadership and people-driven development as Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Gift Sialubalo, has once again come through for the people—this time by empowering Nzenga Community School in Sinazongwe Ward with building materials worth K14,400.

The donation, delivered through Sinazongwe District Council Chairperson Cliff Siachibweka, comprised 50 bags of cement, 2 rolls of corn force wire, 30 rolls of brick force wire, and plastic sheeting. The gesture is aimed at supporting the community’s initiative to construct a proper learning facility that will uplift the education standards of local children.

Speaking when he handed over the materials on behalf of the MP, Mr. Siachibweka hailed the community for taking the lead in initiating the project.

“We are proud of you for coming up with this idea because schools are factories that produce future leaders. As leaders, we are here to walk with you, despite the constituency being vast. Your MP has sent me to deliver these materials as a demonstration of his commitment to your vision,” he said.

Mr. Siachibweka also took the opportunity to educate residents on how development is channeled through government structures, emphasizing the role of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in taking community priorities to the council table where the MP, the Council Chairperson, and the District Commissioner deliberate and act on them.

Highlighting the broader national development agenda, he pointed to President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, citing free education, student grants, skills training, and ongoing works on the Batoka–Maamba Road as evidence of a government that cares.

“We have a caring President in HH, and your MP Hon. Sialubalo has answered your call because he too is a caring leader. Let’s unite and work together

LIVINGSTONE STUDENT EXCELS AT NATIONAL JETS FAIR

By Mwiya Mukumbuta in Livingstone

A Grade 12 pupil from Nalituwe Secondary School in Livingstone has made the community proud after emerging victorious at the recently held National JETS finals in Lusaka.

Charity Mulenga, a promising cosmetologist, scooped first position in the cosmetology category at the 2025 National JETS fair, which took place from August 11-15, 2025.

The National JETS Fair is an annual event that brings together young minds to compete in different categories, aimed at talent identification in the education sector.

Mulenga's determination paid off as she outdid her competitors, and she plans to leverage her achievement to launch a cosmetology business.

Mulenga believes she has identified her talent and entrepreneurial skills, which will aid her career and life.

As she is about to complete her secondary education, Mulenga is seeking start-up capital from well-wishers to keep herself busy and raise money for tertiary education.

"I don't want to be dormant after school; I want to keep myself busy and raise money for my tertiary education," Mulenga said.

Her achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she is an inspiration to her peers.

ENOCK SIMFUKWES DEATH DEMAND FOR JUSTICE...

This afternoon, I, along Simon Mulenga Mwila, Celestine Mambula Mukandila, Chomba Kaoma with other colleagues, visited the funeral house of Enock Simfukwe in Chipata Maplot area, the boy allegedly killed by beating.
Enock's video, was trending on social media, showing him tied, being beaten, and tortured, begging for mercy unfortunately his plea landed on deaf ears until he died which caused a,social media uproar...
Unfortunately Zambia Police this afternoon issued a statement which is contrary to events from the family.

Police Statement states that, Enock was allegedly sent by a Fatima to pour acid on Maria for unknown reasons. totally different from the Enocks Family's (Mother) Account which states that, Enock went to visit a friend at Maria's farm, was apprehended for trespassing, tied, beaten until be become unconscious, and was taken to the police. The police refused to detain him due to his condition and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead due to severe beating.

The law prohibits torture or taking the law into one's hands.
Why was Enock beaten, tied, and killed instead of being taken to the police?
If Enock had acid to pour on Maria for whatever reasons, does that warrant killing him after tying and beating him instead of taking him to the police?

The police must do their job impartially, it's in public domain that Enock died after being tortured. The police must investigate and apprehend the known suspects. Videos showing torture are widespread, and suspects are freely roaming the street.
Every life matters, regardless of wealth or status.
The suspects should be apprehended and charged now!

Enock will be buried tomorrow after postmoterm...

TRUCK DRIVERS DEMAND FASTER REHABILITATION OF MAAMBA-BATOKA ROAD OVER SAFETY CONCERNS

Truck drivers operating along the Maamba-Batoka Road are calling for the fast-tracking of ongoing resurfacing works along the stretch, citing safety concerns due to the heavy loads they carry.

The road is being rehabilitated at K1.1 billion and is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Joshua Phiri tells sinazongwe Times in Sinazongwe that the bypass roads currently in use are unsafe, fearing the occurrence of accidents, with one driver already succumbing to a fatality in July.

Phiri adds that the high altitude of the terrain makes the situation more challenging for drivers to maneuver, hence the need to urgently complete rehabilitation works.

Another driver, Allan Muntanga, is hopeful that work on the Batoka-Maamba Road can be completed way ahead of the contractual obligation, which schedules March 2027 as the handover time.

He notes that the current state of the bypass roads is posing movement challenges.

During a recent site visit on the said road, President Hakainde Hichilema urged the contractor to work around the clock to ensure the timely completion of the project.
