TRAGEDY IN SINDA: YOUNG GIRL DIES IN HOUSE FIRE💔💔💔💔

A tragic incident has rocked Kalimankhana Village in Chief Nyanje’s area of Sinda District, following the death of a young girl in a house fire that occurred late yesterday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Eunice Zimba, was a pupil at Nthongole Primary School, enrolled in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) class. According to authorities, the fire broke out around 17:00 hours and quickly engulfed the kitchen where Eunice was at the time.

Preliminary investigations suggest the blaze was accidentally ignited by petrol that had been stored inside the kitchen — a practice emergency services strongly discourage due to its high risk.

Despite efforts from nearby residents, the flames proved too intense, and the child tragically succumbed to severe burns at the scene.

Sinda Police transported the body to St. Francis Hospital mortuary, where it awaits burial.

Local authorities and safety officials have since urged community members to avoid storing flammable substances in residential areas, particularly in places where children are present.

The community mourns the loss of a bright young life taken far too soon.

A disturbing incident of domestic violence unfolded in Kalesa village, Sinda district, on Monday, May 12th, leaving a woman seriously injured. Romancy Phiri was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her husband with a screwdriver, Mr. Lemekani Zulu, following a dispute over nshima.

According to reports from the village, the argument erupted when Mr. Zulu accused his wife of prioritizing her non-biological children by serving them nshima before him. KEITH MWEEMBA ELECTED NEW FAZ PRESIDENT

Keith Mweemba has been elected as the new Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president after securing 45 votes during the reconvened elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kabwe on Saturday.

The Lusaka-based lawyer will commence his four-year term from 2025 to 2029, succeeding Andrew Kamanga, who led FAZ from 2016 to 2025.

Mweemba beat a field of four other contenders, with incumbent Kamanga polling 20 votes, former FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala finishing with 17 votes, while Francis Hafwiti and Emmanuel Munaile failed to register a vote.

The elections, which were the only agenda item on the day as unanimously agreed by the Congress, were conducted under the supervision of a FIFA, CAF and COSAFA delegation led by FIFA’s Senior Manager for Member Associations Governance, Ahmed Harraz.

In the Vice Presidential race, the position will be decided by a runoff later today after none of the three candidates secured the required 50 percent plus one vote.

Incumbent Justin Mumba received 41 votes, while Mutale N’gandu came close with 40 votes. Christopher Kasale polled one vote, and will not proceed to the second round.

Meanwhile, Col. Priscilla Katoba was ratified as the FAZ Women’s National Representative, having gone unopposed. Her nomination was proposed by Green Buffaloes Women FC and seconded by FC MUZA.

KAPOCHE CONSTITUENCY COUNSELORS UNITE TO LOBBY FOR MORE WATER PROJECTS AMIDST MISINFORMATION

In a united front, the area Member of Parliament for Kapoche Constituency, Hon. Luckson Lungu, convened a crucial meeting with councilors representing all five wards within the constituency – Kapoche, Luandazi, Sivwa, Nchingilizya, and Chamakuwi – at the Protea Hotel in Chipata. The primary objective of the gathering was to engage with Innovation Africa, an organization known for its impactful water reticulation projects across the continent, to advocate for an expansion of their initiatives within Kapoche.

According to sources present at the meeting, the atmosphere was one of collaborative effort and determination. The elected leaders, representing various levels of governance within the constituency, underscored their shared commitment to improving access to clean and reliable water for their constituents. This united lobbying effort aimed to build upon the progress already made in the area through existing water projects.
Speaking after the meeting, a representative of the councilors emphasized that advocating for development projects is a core responsibility of their roles.

"As elected leaders, it is our duty to actively seek out partnerships and opportunities that will benefit the people we serve," the representative stated. "This meeting with Innovation Africa is a testament to our proactive approach in addressing the critical issue of water access in Kapoche."

However, the spirit of unity was somewhat dampened by reports of misinformation circulating within the constituency. The leaders present expressed concern over claims allegedly being spread by some aspiring candidates for political office. These individuals are reportedly misleading the public by suggesting that Innovation Africa is not working in collaboration with the current area Member of Parliament, Hon. Luckson Lungu.

In response to these misleading narratives, the gathered leaders issued a strong rebuttal. They affirmed the existing positive working relationship between Hon. Lungu and Innovation Africa, highlighting the successful water projects already implemented in Kapoche as evidence of this collaboration.

"It is disheartening to see some individuals resorting to falsehoods for their own political gain," stated one of the ward councilors. "The truth is that Hon. Lungu has been instrumental in facilitating the partnership with Innovation Africa, and we are here today to build on that foundation, not dismantle it."

The leaders collectively urged the residents of Kapoche Constituency to disregard these unfounded claims and to recognize the ongoing efforts being made by their elected representatives to bring tangible development to the area.

Councilors present reiterated their commitment to transparency and assured the community that they would continue to work diligently with organizations like Innovation Africa to address the pressing needs of the constituency, with water reticulation remaining a top priority.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and a clear message: the elected leaders of Kapoche are united in their efforts to secure more water projects for the benefit of all residents, and they will not be deterred by misleading information aimed at undermining their collaborative work. Further updates on the progress of these lobbying efforts are expected in due course.
