First Lady Donates Essential Supplies and Sewing Machines in Solwezi
The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, Mrs. Mutinta Hichilema, has made a substantial donation to Solwezi General Hospital and local cooperatives, underscoring the government’s commitment to community welfare and empowerment.
Speaking at the hospital today, the First Lady highlighted the importance of compassion and collective responsibility in improving people’s lives. She handed over foodstuffs and other essential items aimed at boosting patient nutrition and supporting the hospital’s daily operations.
The donation to Solwezi General Hospital included:
50 mattresses
100 bags of 25kg mealie meal
50 bales of sugar
60 cases of cooking oil
70 bags of 10kg rice
50 blankets
In addition to supporting the hospital, Mrs. Hichilema announced an empowerment initiative for local cooperatives, donating 80 sewing machines. She described them as “instruments of change” that can create sustainable livelihoods, generate employment, and strengthen the local economy.
The First Lady also expressed her appreciation to the North-Western Provincial Administration for its warm reception and support. She paid tribute to hospital staff, acknowledging their dedication as the “backbone of our healthcare system.”
The donations were made possible through the support of various partners, including Zambia Sugar Plc, the Chinese Association, the Sahara Foundation, and the Organization of African First Ladies for Development.
Mrs. Hichilema closed her remarks with a call for unity in caring for one another: “It is our duty as a society to ensure that all our people are not only given the medical attention they need but also the dignity and comfort they deserve.”
