‎North Western Motorbike Association Hosts Road Safety Sensitization Meeting in Solwezi

‎The North Western Motorbike Association held a road safety awareness meeting at Solwezi Stadium today, bringing together key players from government, mining companies, and law enforcement to promote safer riding practices. Association President Graham Kahangu noted that the motorbike sector has provided employment for over 20,000 people in the province and urged authorities to create a more supportive environment for operators.

‎FQM Trident, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has officially handed over the Wumi Mini Hospital in Kalumbila District, a facility set to benefit over 15,000 residents. North-Western Province Minister Hon. Robert Lihefu praised the collaboration, highlighting it as a boost to the local health sector and a testament to FQM’s corporate social responsibility. FQM Country Manager Dr. Godwin Beene reaffirmed the company’s support for improved healthcare, citing the hospital’s key services, including maternal care, laboratory testing, and radiology.

‎Minister of Health Hon. Elijah Muchima welcomed the development, noting it aligns with the government’s vision for resilient health systems and called on FQM to consider constructing another facility in the area. ‎Kasonso Donates K10,000 to Tumvanganai Congregation for Music Equipment

‎Solwezi Central aspiring candidate for 2026, Tapson Kasonso, has continued his support for faith-based initiatives with a K10,000 donation to the Evangelical Church Tumvanganai congregation in Kazomba. The contribution is aimed at supporting the church’s fundraising drive for music equipment and comes just a week after his K13,000 donation to Emma’s Evangelical Church in Muzabula.

‎Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Tapson Kasonso emphasized the importance of faith in community building, urging the congregation to use music to inspire and uplift society. Evangelical Church Elder Elijah Pondi welcomed the gesture with gratitude, saying the donation would greatly enhance the church’s musical ministry and commended Kasonso for his continued dedication to community development.

First Lady Donates Essential Supplies and Sewing Machines in Solwezi

The First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, Mrs. Mutinta Hichilema, has made a substantial donation to Solwezi General Hospital and local cooperatives, underscoring the government’s commitment to community welfare and empowerment.

Speaking at the hospital today, the First Lady highlighted the importance of compassion and collective responsibility in improving people’s lives. She handed over foodstuffs and other essential items aimed at boosting patient nutrition and supporting the hospital’s daily operations.

The donation to Solwezi General Hospital included:

50 mattresses

100 bags of 25kg mealie meal

50 bales of sugar

60 cases of cooking oil

70 bags of 10kg rice

50 blankets

In addition to supporting the hospital, Mrs. Hichilema announced an empowerment initiative for local cooperatives, donating 80 sewing machines. She described them as “instruments of change” that can create sustainable livelihoods, generate employment, and strengthen the local economy.

The First Lady also expressed her appreciation to the North-Western Provincial Administration for its warm reception and support. She paid tribute to hospital staff, acknowledging their dedication as the “backbone of our healthcare system.”

The donations were made possible through the support of various partners, including Zambia Sugar Plc, the Chinese Association, the Sahara Foundation, and the Organization of African First Ladies for Development.

Mrs. Hichilema closed her remarks with a call for unity in caring for one another: “It is our duty as a society to ensure that all our people are not only given the medical attention they need but also the dignity and comfort they deserve.”
