CDF Borehole Project Brings Relief to Luveve-Emakhandeni Communities

Residents in Gwabalanda’s Ziyaphapha area and New Lobengula’s Emkhayeni area today received a major boost after the commissioning of two solar-powered boreholes funded through the Community Development Fund (CDF).

The boreholes were officially commissioned by Luveve–Emakhandeni legislator, Discent Bajila, together with the constituency’s CDF Committee.

The projects form part of six boreholes drilled and equipped under the 2025 CDF programme at a total cost of ZiG1 300 000. Other completed boreholes are located in Luveve 5, Emakhandeni A near Easy Pick shops, and Emakhandeni B near the car park. Another borehole in Mafakela is expected to be commissioned on Sunday, 10 May.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Hon. Bajila urged communities to establish sustainability and security mechanisms through water point committees to safeguard the infrastructure.

“This infrastructure will require maintenance and protection for it to continue serving communities effectively. Residents must take ownership of these projects through strong water point committees,” he said.

The MP also revealed that ward-based public consultative meetings would be conducted in June to gather residents’ views on development priorities for the 2026 CDF programme.

“We want communities to fully participate in determining projects that matter most to them. Residents are encouraged to come in their numbers and air their views during the consultations,” added Hon. Bajila.

Speaking on behalf of residents in Ziyaphapha, community leader Gwetu expressed appreciation for the development, saying the borehole would ease water challenges that residents had endured for years.

“Gone are the days when people from Ziyaphapha walked long distances to fetch water near Luveve Clinic or the borehole close to Luveve Police Camp during peak water shedding periods. Residents will now get water from their doorstep,” he said.

Representing the New Lobengula community, Dube also welcomed the initiative but expressed concern over the low turnout of residents during the commissioning ceremony.

He challenged community members to take such gatherings seriously, saying development projects require active public participation and community ownership.

The borehole programme is expected to improve access to clean and reliable water in the constituency, particularly during periods of prolonged water shedding affecting Bulawayo suburbs.

Residents’ Association Tours Bulawayo Supply Dams

The Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) yesterday conducted a tour of the city’s major water supply dams as part of efforts to assess current water levels and engage authorities on the prevailing supply situation.

The tour came amid growing concern among residents over water availability and the sustainability of supplies, particularly as the dry season approaches. Dialogue FM was part of the tour.

Five Emakhandeni–Luveve Schools Receive Starlink Kits in Digital Push

Five primary schools in Emakhandeni–Luveve Constituency have received Starlink internet kits in a move set to enhance digital learning and improve access to online educational resources.

The beneficiary schools—Emakhandeni Primary School, Mafakela Primary School, Josiah Chinamano Primary School, Fusi Primary School and Nzwananzi Primary School—were selected through a community-driven WhatsApp poll, reflecting growing efforts to involve residents in local development decisions.

The donation was made by the area’s Member of Parliament, Honourable Descent Bajila Ndlovu, under Phase 2 of the Emakhandeni–Luveve Community Connect Programme. The initiative builds on an earlier phase which saw connectivity extended to Luveve Youth Centre.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Honourable Bajila said the programme is aimed at ensuring universal access to high-speed internet across schools in the constituency.

“The programme is designed to ensure universal access to high-speed internet across all schools in the constituency,” he said.
“We deliberately integrated community participation in the allocation of development resources, as it is central to democratic governance and the devolution agenda.”

He added that the installation of the Starlink kits will help both learners and teachers adapt to Zimbabwe’s heritage-based curriculum by improving access to research materials and enabling real-time learning in classrooms.
The legislator also confirmed that initial subscription costs have been covered, with Emakhandeni Primary School receiving two months’ subscription in recognition of strong community support during the selection process.

Teachers from the beneficiary schools welcomed the development, saying it will significantly ease research for pupils and improve lesson delivery through access to up-to-date digital content.

“This will make learning more interactive and allow our students to access information in real time,” said one teacher.

The initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), particularly in advancing the digital economy, inclusive service delivery, and human capital development. It also contributes to global targets under the Sustainable Development Goals, including quality education, industry and innovation, and reduced inequalities.

Honourable Bajila revealed that Phase 3 of the programme is expected to roll out in the second quarter of 2026, with anticipated support from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services.

The Emakhandeni–Luveve Community Connect Programme forms part of broader efforts to expand internet access, equip communities with digital skills, and position citizens to actively participate in Zimbabwe’s transition towards an upper-middle-income economy.

⚽️ BOSSO AT IMIKLOMELO KA DAKAMELA | CULTURE MEETS FOOTBALL 🎉

The Highlanders F.C. exhibition stand was among the standout attractions at the recently concluded Imiklomelo kaDakamela Cultural Festival in Nkayi — bringing together sport, culture, and community.

Widely known as Bosso, the club is more than just a football team — it is a cultural symbol deeply rooted in Matabeleland identity, with strong ties to the Ndebele community and a history dating back to 1926.

The festival itself has been praised as a powerful space for cultural expression, social cohesion, and national pride.

🖤🤍 Siyinqaba — more than a club, it’s a people.
