A larger-than-life personality, Babongile was full of surprises. At the last awards ceremony, he pulled off yet another unforgettable moment—just hours before we went live, he brought a GOAT 🐐, which was later presented to Busisa Moyo as a gift.

It’s hard to believe that today we are writing this in the past tense. Rest in peace to our 2018 Outstanding Radio DJ and Outstanding Male Artiste, a testament to his incredible versatility in the arts as a comedian, musician, and actor.

The Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) have officially set the date for their 8th edition, with a grand ceremony scheduled for 8 November 2025, at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) Hall 3.
This year’s awards are embracing the theme of the number 8, with key dates and deadlines revolving around it.

Organisers say the nominees will be revealed on 8 October 2025, alongside the Nominees Dinner and the unveiling of the People’s Choice Award sponsor.

This morning, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Ishmael “Litshe” Muvingi, also known as Stone or by his totem “Samanyanga.”

Ishmael, who was honored as the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards 2018 Outstanding Theatre Actor and was the 2023 Outstanding Theatre Actor Nominee.

For 30 years, Ishmael dedicated his life to the arts, touring the world with Siyaya Arts and Umkhathi Theatre Works, bringing his incredible talent to audiences in Europe and Asia. His versatility was unmatched, seamlessly juggling dance, music, and acting.

Before 1994, Ishmael was a passionate fan of dance, hip hop, and rugby, showcasing his diverse interests and talents from an early age.

Your creative works and vibrant spirit will forever be remembered, Ishu. Rest in peace. 🕊️
