Have you considered media training as a public person?

I watch a lot of interviews by Zimbabwean young people, whilst I enjoy the stories, I realise the vast majority of us do not know what to say and what not to say on a permanent record like an interview.

Good day people,

Let's talk about business for a second.

You need to know what your business is about. Different businesses are about different things.

Some businesses are about the product, some are about the process, some are about people, and some are about the experience.

Here is an example: if you ask for suggestions about places to braai/barbeque, you will here the following responses;
Place A has really nice views
Place B has really nice food
Place C has really nice service.

Positioning is about what you offer. And it's sometimes industry specific, sometimes demographic specific, and sometimes psychographic specific.

Use the Vilfredo Pareto principle to allocate your resources to your positioning.

In street lingo: give the people what they want!

For entrepreneurs,

Marketing has context. When you are selling a product/service that is low-cost, generic and mass (e.g snacks, t-shirts, cups, water), you need direct marketing. Whereas, when you are selling a personalised service that is only required when someone is in need (e.g health insurance, health facilities, lawyer, web designer, builder, tax cosultancy etc), you need brand marketing.

Direct marketing is about sharing your offer directly to the consumer using direct channels such as social media, newspapers, whatsapp etc. This is mostly inbound marketing. ROI of this is measured in leads, conversions, and cart size of each sale.

And, brand marketing is building a reputation that you are 1) credible - you will deliver what has been asked in a manner that has been asked, and 2) authority - you are the leader and trendsetter in your area of specialty. This is mostly outbound marketing. ROI of this is measured in brand sentiment etc.

Here is an example, if someone asks you "where can I get R5 water?" You can suggest more than five places off the cuff. Any place will do really.

But if someone were to say, "I am facing at minimum 25 years in prison, which lawyer do you suggest?" You can't answer of the cuff.

Example 1 is direct, example 2 is brand.

In summary, what I am trying to say is, know WHERE to spend your marketing dollars, and know WHAT to measure and what not to measure.

AmaHappenings was started in November 2017 after Mthokozisi Mabhena realized that there were a lot of events that were happening in Bulawayo but people were missing out because there was lack of central access of information.

This made us to create a digital platform where people can go and post all the events that were happening in Bulawayo.

Our initial services included events promo and small time graphic designing gigs for events.

However, we reached a point where we had to pivot or ‘keep this thing as hobby’.
