PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA DELIVERS, WAR VETS RECEIVE TRACTORS

President Dr ED Mnangagwa has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to empowering Zimbabwe’s war veterans and driving national development, with the handover of 100 tractors to former liberation fighters.

The tractors, presented by Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka on behalf of the President, are part of a broader empowerment package aimed at boosting productivity on farms allocated to war veterans across the country.

Dr Masuka emphasised that President Mnangagwa deeply value the immense sacrifices made by war veterans, both during the liberation struggle and in reclaiming land for Zimbabweans.

“The President always say the war veterans did a splendid job to liberate Zimbabwe and they went further to reclaim the land, it is only befitting that they be given the necessary equipment to develop the Country” said Dr Anxious Masuka.

Also in attendance was the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Cd Monica Mavhunga, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the war veterans.

” The Government has made it clear that the welfare of the war veterans is always looked at. The President promised tittle deeds on farms and that program has already started. Now we are receiving tractors on top of the land and tittle deeds, Surely we have to be thankful comrades” she noted.

Comrade Douglas Mahiya, another senior war veteran, praised President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, saying he is a man who delivers on his promises.

“We had asked for 3000 tractors, but we understand that tractors are not like blankets that comes in large volumes. This is just the beginning and more are coming”. Said Cd Mahiya.

This gesture reaffirms the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusive empowerment and Agricultural mordenisation, ensuring that war veterans remain central to the country’s socio-economic transformation.

In a shocking incident that has raised serious security questions, a 13-year-old Afghan boy miraculously survived a 94-minute flight hidden in the landing gear of a Kam Air plane traveling from Kabul to New Delhi.

Ras Pompy Jailed for Drug Possession

Zimbabwe continues to grapple with the growing scourge of drug and substance abuse, a crisis that has claimed many young lives and fueled widespread addiction. In collaboration with the courts, law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on offenders to curb the availability and circulation of harmful substances.

The recent conviction of popular dancehall artist Nyasha Reginald Mano, widely known as Ras Pompy, highlights the seriousness with which authorities are tackling the issue.

Ras Pompy was sentenced to six months in prison after being found in possession of illegal cough syrups. He was convicted of contravening the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act following a trial before Harare magistrate Mr. Gamuchirai Gore.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs. Mandirasa Chigumra, the incident occurred on July 16, 2025, at around 11 a.m. Detectives from the CID Drugs Harare spotted a black Honda Fit, registration number AGS 6699, stuck in traffic along Kambuzuma Road. The vehicle was already flagged in their database as one used for supplying drugs in Harare.

The court heard that when detectives signaled Ras Pompy to stop, he sped off into Rugare suburb, prompting a high-speed chase that ended when his car crashed into a metal pole. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of about 100 bottles of cough syrup with an estimated street value of US$396. The haul included 24 x 100ml bottles of Broncleer cough syrup, 20 x 100ml bottles of Benylin cough syrup, and 55 x 100ml bottles of Astra Pain cough syrup.

This case underscores Zimbabwe’s intensifying fight against drug and substance abuse. Authorities are sending a strong message that no one regardless of social standing or popularity is above the law. As the country confronts this growing public health and security challenge, such prosecutions serve as a reminder of the urgent need for collective efforts by the government, communities, and individuals to protect the nation’s youth and secure a healthier future.

Presidential AffairsPresident Mnangagwa Declares War on Corruption in ZANU PF

President Mnangagwa has declared war on corruption within ZANU PF, emphasizing that graft of any kind will not be tolerated in the party’s empowerment fund management.

Addressing a politburo meeting yesterday, he ordered beneficiaries of presidential schemes to submit detailed reports.

“Corruption of any kind can never be condoned. I urge the documentation of women- and youth-led project successes for broader party learning,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President praised party structures for their preparations ahead of the National People’s Conference in Mutare and warned against actions that could damage the party’s image.

“I am pleased that the party machinery is demonstrating concerted re-focusing and re-calibrating at all levels to achieve our goals,” the President added.

The ruling party is holding its National People’s Conference in Mutare next month.

Parliament’s Call Heeded as NPA Takes Tough Stance on Drug Crimes

Following public outrage and concerns raised by Members of Parliament, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) has announced the deportation of nine Chinese nationals convicted of possessing dangerous drugs, including co***ne.

The controversy stems from the initial sentence, which saw the individuals fined only US$150 each. This sparked criticism from the public and lawmakers, who argued that the punishment was too lenient given that the law prescribes fines ranging from US$700,000 to US$5,000, along with jail terms of 15 to 25 years.

In a statement issued yesterday, the NPA reaffirmed its commitment to justice:

“We are taking this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the diligent and fair prosecution of all criminal cases. The NPA is committed to ensuring that all individuals are accountable for their actions in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe, regardless of their nationality or status,” read the statement.

During a National Assembly session on 16 September 2025, Hon. T. Pinduka urged the government to deport the Chinese nationals, describing them as “bad apples” among Zimbabweans.

The NPA confirmed that the nine Chinese nationals are currently awaiting deportation.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to combat the scourge of dangerous drugs, as it poses a significant threat to the well-being of our nation,” the statement added.

Zhoya Gets 12 Months Behind Bars Over Abuse of Office

The Harare Magistrates’ Court has jailed Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Aspindale Depot Supply Chain Manager, Obert Safuli Zhoya (58), for criminal abuse of office.

He was handed a 24-month sentence, with 12 months suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective year in prison.

The conviction relates to a fraudulent scheme in May 2025, where Zhoya attempted to dispose of 599 bags of Compound D Superfert fertiliser under the pretext that the stock had been written off. The fertiliser, which had been moved from GMB Sadza Depot to Mt Hampden Depot in May 2024, was actually meant for the government’s grain-for-fertiliser swap programme.
