Update as at 7pm by ZEC Commissioner Ambrose Mohadi : “The polling stations have officially closed at 1900 hours. We still have people in the voting queue still voting, so the statistics I'm going to give you as of now are not the final, they are not the final statistics. So the total males having voted at 1900 hours was 1 909.

Total female voted 2 889, making a total of 4 798. The voter population as you are aware was 22 833. The voter turnout as of now is 21%.

There was people who were turned away, 175 males and females, 208. The total number, 383.
Assisted voters, the males were 55, females 120, making a total of 175.

Of the people who were turned away, the major reasons were that they were from different constituencies, not Nkulumane, they were not on the voters roll, they did not have their IDs or they had expired passports or they came with their driver's license. So that is the reasons why they were turned away. So we will give you another update when we have finished counting.”

ZAPU candidate Vivian Siziba says what went wrong during the campaign period was widespread vote-buying by the ruling party, which he describes as “very bad.” He says this is done under the guise of service delivery, such as drilling boreholes and distributing food hampers only during election periods, targeting the elderly and other vulnerable groups. Siziba adds that such assistance should be consistent, not election-driven, and urges voters to “take what is given but still do the right thing when voting.”
