This is where it all starts.

Makokoba's 11th Street Ground witnessed one of the biggest crowds seen in junior football as the derby between Real Stars Academy and Bulawayo Tigers took centre stage in the ZIFA Bulawayo Province Junior League Serie A.

Makokoba and the surrounding suburbs, including Mzilikazi, Nguboyenja, and Barbourfields, are renowned for producing some of the finest talent to play football locally and internationally. It was unsurprising to see the huge crowd turn out to watch the three matches. The next stars of Zimbabwean football will emerge from the crop that was in action yesterday.

Perhaps, some PSL and lower division clubs can take a leaf from these junior teams in terms of attracting large crowds. Perhaps it's all about community buy-in.

In the three matches played, Tigers, coached by Wilmot Kwenda, claimed bragging rights over Clement Chimimba's Real Stars. In the Under-15s category, Tigers won 3-2, while the Under-13s and Under-17s matches ended in 1-1 draws.

And of course, there was controversy to cap it all off. What a day it was!

Talent alone is not enough. Hardwork, discipline and dedication is finally paying off for Reason "Reebo" Sibanda.

"Right now, I feel he’s the best player in the league.

“He’s consistent, helps us aerially, creates, defends and scores. He’s close to being a complete player, and we hope he maintains the momentum,” said Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu. Source- The Herald.

We once futured him on our blog, back in 2021.

Former Mposa Academy Star Pakanisha Zibusiso Mpofu Finds New Home at ZRP Gwanda FC

After a year of uncertainty and perseverance, former Mposa Academy attacking midfielder/winger Pakanisha Zibusiso Mpofu has finally secured a club, signing a one-year deal with ZRP Gwanda FC.

Mpofu's journey has not been without its challenges. Last year, he trialed with Talent Vision FC and Ajax Hotspurs FC, but unfortunately, did not receive a contract offer from either club. Undeterred, Mpofu continued to work on his craft, driven by his passion for the beautiful game.

In 2025, Mpofu's determination paid off when he impressed ZRP Gwanda FC during trials. The Central Region club, which competes in the first division, saw the potential in the 20-year-old midfielder and offered him a one-year contract.

"It feels great to have finally found a new home," Mpofu exclaimed. "I'm excited to play in the first division and face new challenges. I hope to gain valuable experience and continue to grow as a player."

Cecil Mahlangu had a big dream: to see ZPC Hwange play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. He was over the moon and emotional when the team finally got promoted after 36 long years.

But now, disaster has struck. It looks like the Hwange side might not get to play in the top league after all and will be campaigning in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One Official.

Spotlighting upcoming talent in Zimbabwe football

Mzilikazi Juniors select midfielder Michael Kaduruza, is the 17-year-old sensation, who set the stage ablaze during the Johannes Ngodzo Annual Football tournament at Mzilikazi Primary School on Monday.

Affectionately known as "Sina", the attacking midfielder won the Under 17s Player of the Tournament award after delivering impressive performances that thrilled the fans in attendance. His first goal against Real Stars was pure class. Spectators rushed onto the pitch to celebrate with the youngster after he made a mockery of the opponents' defence in a match they won 2-0 and he scored a brace.

With the elegance of a conductor leading an orchestra, he made it all look effortless, skillfully dummying the defender twice before finishing with aplomb.

"The ball was in the air, and I realised I couldn't chest it. I decided to control it with a positive touch, but I saw that the defender was close by, so I dummied him. He quickly got up, and I dummied him again." He smiled, recalling the moment. "Luckily, I had also confused the goalkeeper, and the ball bounced off my shin and rolled into the net," he explained.

Those familiar with junior football know that this was no fluke; it is a natural gift for the Bulawayo City juniors midfielder. "It's an inborn thing," Kaduruza said. "I am always composed in front of goal. I prefer to subtract opponents rather than shoot in tight spaces," he said.

Born on 19 April 2007, Sina began his football journey at the tender age of five, inspired by his brother David Kaduruza and Zimbabwe Saints coach Rogers Ndlovu, who mentored him at Mountain Climbers. Sina's footballing ambitions are lofty; he hopes to play in Europe one day.

He models his play on that of Chicken Inn midfielder Elshmar Farasi and Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo. When asked about his favourite local and foreign clubs, Sina's loyalty lies with Highlanders and Real Madrid, respectively, although he aspires to play for FC Platinum locally.

What sets Sina apart is his uncanny ability to remain composed in front of goal, like a seasoned veteran. His composure belies his age. Sina's impressive record speaks for itself. As the top goalscorer for the Bulawayo Under 17s in the 2024 season with 17 goals, he is undoubtedly a rising star in Zimbabwean football.
