This is where it all starts.
Makokoba's 11th Street Ground witnessed one of the biggest crowds seen in junior football as the derby between Real Stars Academy and Bulawayo Tigers took centre stage in the ZIFA Bulawayo Province Junior League Serie A.
Makokoba and the surrounding suburbs, including Mzilikazi, Nguboyenja, and Barbourfields, are renowned for producing some of the finest talent to play football locally and internationally. It was unsurprising to see the huge crowd turn out to watch the three matches. The next stars of Zimbabwean football will emerge from the crop that was in action yesterday.
Perhaps, some PSL and lower division clubs can take a leaf from these junior teams in terms of attracting large crowds. Perhaps it's all about community buy-in.
In the three matches played, Tigers, coached by Wilmot Kwenda, claimed bragging rights over Clement Chimimba's Real Stars. In the Under-15s category, Tigers won 3-2, while the Under-13s and Under-17s matches ended in 1-1 draws.
And of course, there was controversy to cap it all off. What a day it was!
