Ignore liars : EU MPs, ambassadors warned over Job Sikhala
STAFF WRITER
Destiny of Africa Network (DANet) Founder and President Reverend Obadiah Musindo has launched a blistering attack on opposition figure Job Sikhala, warning Western powers not to rely on what he described as “fabrications” meant to discredit Zimbabwe.
This follows Sikhala’s address to European Union MPs in which he claimed rampant human rights abuses were taking place in the country.
Musindo said Western institutions risked repeating past mistakes by believing unverified allegations from individuals driven by desperation, internal political fights and the pursuit of donor funding.
He accused Sikhala of deliberately misleading foreign officials.
“First of all, I want to say that Job Sikala is a liar, and he told the European MPs complete lies,” he said.
Drawing parallels with events outside the country, Musindo added: “This is similar to what happened in South Africa, where a few individuals lied to the President of the United States, claiming that white people were being massacred… Donald Trump accepted it without investigating, and instead of harming South Africa, the country ended up gaining international sympathy.”
According to Musindo, Sikhala’s claims follow a long pattern of opposition deception dating back to the early 2000s.
“They lied a lot during the First Republic against Zimbabwe, and Europe and America accepted those lies—only to later realise that most of the things said… were complete fabrications,” he said.
“During that time, there was an international campaign of lies led by Tony Blair… and together with George Bush they lied about Iraq.
“Tony Blair spearheaded an entire machinery of deception. He peddled falsehoods to justify the imposition of sanctions against Zimbabwe.
"Working in cahoots with Job Sikhala and some of his associates, he deliberately distorted the country’s image on the international stage. Their collective agenda was clear — to discredit Zimbabwe and ultimately they wanted remove ZANU-PF from power.

He argued that the same trend contributed to sanctions on Zimbabwe.
“The opposition party under Tsvangirai also propagated these lies, resulting in Zimbabwe being placed under sanctions… not only Zimbabwe was affected; European and American interests were affected too. They donated a lot of ground to China.”
Musindo also alleged that Sikhala’s behaviour over the years demonstrated political instability and violent tendencies.
“Job Sikala, number one, is known to be a violent individual. Number two, he is known to be a man with mental instabilities when it comes to politics… a man of violence, a man of theatrics… someone whom European Union MPs should not listen to.”
He cited past incidents involving the opposition to argue that many acts of political violence were “internally orchestrated.”
“Now, why do I say his claims about his house being bombed are lies? Why do I say the bombing of Ibbo Mandaza’s place is an inside job?” he asked.
“You remember that on the day Tsvangirai was buried, there was an attempt to burn Douglas Mwonzora inside a house together with Khupe… The opposition had its own skilled violent perpetrators… They unleashed violence internally, yet portrayed themselves internationally as victims.”
Musindo named individuals he said were involved in intra-party violence.
“There was one guy, vanguard leader… Another one was Sikhala. These individuals were known for violence inside their party. Many opposition MPs and members who disagreed… were beaten mercilessly. You remember a policeman was murdered in Glen View by opposition supporters.”
He dismissed claims that ZANU-PF targeted Sikhala or other opposition actors.
“Why would ZANU-PF go after the weakest political party—calling it a party is even giving it too much dignity… Why target a dying, lifeless party?” he said.
He argued that the ruling party was at its strongest under President Mnangagwa.
“Evidence is there—the thousands who flock to ZANU-PF rallies, the growing support… People are going back to ZANU-PF because they were lied to.”
Musindo said the opposition’s internal fragmentation was partly responsible for alleged staged incidents.
“Before pointing fingers at ZANU-PF, ask yourself: who within the opposition does not want Job Sikala to emerge as a political leader? …the opposition members themselves are divided and hostile towards each other.”
He added: “In such a situation, the only thing these politicians can do to gain international attention and donor funding is to lie—to stage-manage violence.”
The savaged Sikhala saying he is a spend force.
"Sikhala is a political dramatist—a political madman. If Sikhala wants funding from Europe, he should present credible strategies… instead of lying that MPs are being harassed… or that there was an attempt to assassinate his children.”
He argued that Zimbabwe was on an upward economic trajectory and could not be destabilised by “political theatrics.”
“The World Bank and IMF have made positive statements. Forbes Magazine named Zimbabwe one of the best tourism destinations."
He further says, "Service stations are flourishing on every corner because there is a high demand for fuel in the country. We see so many cars; even if you come into town on a Sunday, you would think it is a Monday morning.
"That can only happen in an economy that is alive. Restaurants are full, new restaurants are being developed, and new shopping malls are being built. There is no longer space for small businesses. Even in town, big buildings are being converted into shops for small to medium enterprises. Large mines have reopened. Industries that had previously closed have resumed operations.
"A lot of things are improving in this country. Do not forget, many ambassadors and investors are coming into the country. Re-engagement and engagement policies are in place.
"Many which were put in place are bearing fruits. Why should such a President and his political party focus on a useless, technically non-existent opposition party? Why should ZANU–PF focus on a useless, irrelevant, isolated politician — a failed politician? People who have failed to manage their own political party. Why should ZANU–PF ever focus on destroying job seekers and other MPs?
"He is saying oposition MPs are being persecuted. I challenged MPs to speak for themselves. Why should ZANU–PF waste its time? He was simply trying to manipulate the emotions of those who are ignorant of the true picture of what is happening in the country.
"A true picture. A true scenario because those who believe Job Sikhala do not want to check the facts. Why is it — and this is a very critical point — that Members of the European Parliament are being informed of these issues by Job Sikhala and not by their own representatives? We have many European countries represented here by ambassadors."
He said EU representatives must investigate to see if Sikhala was telling the truth.
"Why is it that this information is not coming from these representatives? Why are they not informing them? Their local ambassadors should verify these matters and debate these issues.
"They must address and properly manage these concerns."
Musindo further warned that incidents such as the alleged abduction of legislator Joanna Mamombe were part of a pattern.
“Every time there is drama… we see staged abductions—remember Joanna Mamombe? That was designed to attract international attention. Job Sikala knows this. He is an enemy of economic, social and political stability.”
He urged Europe to approach Zimbabwe’s political landscape with neutrality.
“My message to European ambassadors… is this: this is not the time for Europe to damage its relationship with Zimbabwe based on political dramatics.”
He added: “If European MPs want to investigate anything, they should include us and appoint independent investigators—not those aligned with the opposition.”
Musindo concluded by urging deeper engagement between Zimbabwe and Europe. “Let them deepen their relationship with Zimbabwe, engage diplomatically, raise issues diplomatically, and avoid taking sides because it will affect European interests.”
