An elephant trampled to death a police officer on duty at Rimai base along the Zimbabwe Mozambique border yesterday evening.
The body of the police officer was discovered today.
Officials at the Cicil Kopje Nature Reserve, the licence holder of the game park, had left the game park gates open leading to the elephants straying into the law enforcement patrolling area.
The Minister of State for Manicaland Province, Mandi Chimene and service chiefs visited the scene of the accident and castigated the game park officials for being negligent.
The name of the police officer is being withheld until his next of keen are informed.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending to us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'.

POPULAR dancer Beverly Sibanda claims she has suffered a miscarriage.
She claims she was pregnant to a baby boy by musician Andy Muridzo and was four months pregnant.
Bev, as she is being referred to, said the mishap happened after her performance at a local club.
She even produced a medical report from Harare Central Hospital – at least according to the stamp on it – to support her claims.
The medical report
"Yes I suffered a miscarriage on Sunday after my show at Holly's Hotel. I had to seek medical attention and I am recovering well. I will be fine," said Bev.
After questioned if she wasn't faking the pregnancy from the beginning, she said:
"Why should I lie? The person who was responsible for the pregnancy confirmed that we had s*x and he didn't dispute that it was unprotected. So who are you to go around and say that I fabricated the story?
"This is the medical report, you can read and see it for yourself, whether you understand medical jargon or not it's not my business" she said.
"The doctor said I was working too much and didn't give myself time to rest.
"I think as you know and you have been to most of my shows, I had three or four shows every week since I fall pregnant.
"I didn't know that this will affect me to this extent, I had a plan to stop performances at least at six months and I was actually working on savings to use on maternity leave.
"However, it's now history and I didn't know that was in store for me," said Bev.
The doctor she claims to have attended to her refused to speak to the Press, citing professional reasons.
Bev suspects she ran into problems last Saturday during her performance at Nicholas Zakaria's album launch at Aquatic Complex.
"The doctor even said I saw some of your pictures at Aquatic Complex on H-Metro website. I was told that it's not good for a pregnant woman," she said.
She said she is recovering well and she expects to be back on stage anytime soon..

MOST parts of Zimbabwe, including Harare and Bulawayo, were yesterday shaken for more than a minute by tremors from an earthquake that occurred in central Botswana which started at 7:40:15pm, almost 350 kilometres southwest of Plumtree.There were no reports of injuries or damage last night, and intensity estimates suggested very low risk of these, although the most severely affected parts of Zimbabwe were Bulilima, Lupane, Nyamandlovu, Tsholotsho, Inyathi, Bulawayo and parts of Hwange.....

A Minor who was allegedly eaten by a crocodile in Mushumbi Mbire district, Mashonaland Central has been identified as Ackim Musewo (8).
Sources close to the investigations claim that Ackim of Muvhundika village under Chief Chitsungo in Mushumbi went to take a bath in Dande River on 13 March where he was attacked by the crocodile .
"The tragedy happened on 13 March "The tragedy happened on 13 March when the minor went to take a bath in Dande River around 18:00hours.
"The deceased was reported missing on the fateful day and was later identified by Matisiya Chiwapura (54) after seeing the beast feasting on human flesh." said the source.
56-year-old Vision Musewo, father to the deceased, confirmed the death and said his son's remains were buried the day before after they were found in the stomach of the crocodile which had been shot by game rangers.
Meanwhile, floods have been recorded in Mbire district and it is reported that crocodiles have shifted from their usual places and therefore it has become very dangerous to bath in rivers.....

Businessman and Chipinge South legislator, Enock Porusingazi says he is ready to repair some roads damaged by heavy rains of recent days as a way of bringing relief to villagers who are now finding it hard to travel.
Most parts of Chipinge district received above average rains which have wrought immense damage on roads and bridges.
Porusingazi acknowledged that the mostly gravel road network in Chipinge South was in dire need of repair saying he was prepared to use his own resources to help the situation as government was in no capacity to do everything on its own.
"I intend to refurbish roads that have been damaged by the rains. I have my own road equipment that is being serviced in preparation for this task.
"We should not always give our government the burden of repairing damaged infrastructure because all roads in Zimbabwe are not good at all. I will source for fuel so that the task at hand can be executed," said Porusingasi
Major roads in Chipinge South include Checheche - Mabeye and Chitepo – Mahenye, both of which have taken a severe battering due to the heavy rains that have pounded most parts of the country....

ZANU-PF Members of National Assembly have been urged not to de-campaign each other ahead of next year’s harmonised elections.
This follows an incident in which Deputy Minister for Information, Communication and Technology and Courier Service as well as Chipinge East legislator, Dr Win Mlambo was forced to abort a meeting in Checheche at the weekend after youths accused him of trespassing into another legislator’s constituency.
Irate Zanu-PF youths in Chipinge South constituency stormed the venue where the meeting was supposed to take place and barred Dr Mlambo and his entourage from entering the venue, accusing him of fomenting divisions in Chipinge District.
The youths accused Dr Mlambo of trying to establish his own centre of power in the district.
In an interview on Wednesday, Zanu-PF national political commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, said the party would stand guided by the reports that would come from the district on what transpired on the day in question.
“He has no business going into other people’s constituencies. He should not destabilise fellow MPs’ constituencies. If he has a programme intended for an area that is outside his constituency, there are properly laid down procedures to follow that include informing the party leadership at provincial level right down to the district. As a party, we do not tolerate divisive tendencies. No.
“We cannot have an MP calling for a rally in another MP’s constituency without the knowledge of his counterpart. Even the purported issue of trying to unite the people from other parties is not done by an individual. The party and all its structures, especially in that area have to be aware. We will look into the matter as soon as we get reports from those on the ground,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

04 Feb 2017 - CHIPINGE - Zanu PF Ward 26 councillor, Misheck Busa, who is also the Chipinge Rural District Council (RDC) vice chairperson, recently paid 12 herd of cattle, two goats and seven large containers of traditional beer to appease the avenging spirit (ngozi) of an opposition party member Philemon Nyamunda he allegedly murdered in the run-up to the 2005 parliamentary elections.
When contacted for comment, by this publication, Busa admitted that he had paid the fine as it was the right thing to do.
"Ndakabhadhara ndoga pasina andimanikidza. Ndezvechivanhu izvi. Ndakaona kuti ndikasadaro zvingozondinetsa mangwana (I paid out of my own free will. This is a matter of tradition. I realised that I would have more problems in the future if I had not paid)," said Busa.
The late Philemon Nyamunda's relatives said Busa's family had been tormented by the avenging spirit for many years.
Isaiah Nyamunda, who is brother to the deceased, said the vengeful spirit also ordered Busa to demonstrate on a got how he carried out the murder.
He told TellZim News that in 2004, Busa together with his sons, Jairos (ex-soldier), Brighton and a group of more than 12 other Zanu PF youths assaulted Nyamunda and a certain Rambire, accusing them of supporting MDC.
The group was allegedly seen hanging the victims upside down while assaulting them.
The attack was allegedly carried out during the night at Busa's shop in Matikwa village with Nyamunda and Rambire dying of their injuries the following morning.
A villager who is privy to the developments said Busa and his son later avoided arrest with the help of a powerful politician from the area but suspicions of ngozi began to rise when Busa's brother died reportedly under mysterious circumstances.
The villager also said in 2013, 2014 and 2015 Busa's other brothers died mysteriously together with his other sons who were in South Africa.

A section of South Africans are planning a demonstration next month ( 24 February) against the influx of foreign nationals who they accuse of taking their jobs.

Flyers circulating online indicate that South Africans are fed up with their government granting asylum seekers status.

They singled out Zimbabweans,Nigerians and Pakistanis as major problems saying there was no war in these countries.

“Why is the government giving asylum seeker(s) status to Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Pakistanis.

“Is there war in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Pakistan etc?” reads part of the flyer that might stoke up xenophobic attacks.

It said unemployment levels are at massive 34% in South Africa “but they give people asylum seeker(s) status when there is no work in South Africa.

“What do you expect them to do? They will commit crimes, got to Spar, Cash crusades, Nandos, restaurants and other companies etc.

Incessant rains raise a flood scare in Chipinge as Save River overflows
In the face of potential floods due to incessant rains, Platform for Youth Development community monitors are on high alert, tracking the thread of the destruction in Chipinge. Reports that are coming from the monitors are to the effect that unplastered houses and Blair toilets are collapsing in areas such as Rimbi, Muumbe, Zamchiya, Mabee and Chinyamukwakwa.
The rains being experienced in the country since November have left a trail of destruction in Chipinge.
Ward 20 Councillor, Charles Mugidho expressed worry at the rate of the destruction and need for preparedness.
"As I am speaking to you, my ward has already registered 98 homesteads whose houses have been destroyed by the rains. Since the rains have not yet stopped, we are expecting more reports of families needing help" Councillor Mugidho bemoaned.
This is a clear telling sign that there is looming disaster calling for urgent attention. The impact of the rains is clear, the roads are no-longer usable. Birchenough Bridge is in a scary state as villagers around the area are saying they have never witnessed the current water levels.
Our monitors on the ground have made the following reports
• Chibuwe high school Headmaster, Needmore Maposa escaped death by a whisker when his truck was swept away at Dakate Bridge due to the effects of the overflowing stream.
• Many families are trying to brave the rains to go to the shopping centres or to grind their maize.
• Most areas in the valley and along Save River are submerged in the water with houses collapsing including shops. Most households are now stranded and raising alarm for government rescue.
• Musikavanhu, Chipinge West and Chipinge South constituencies are the most affected with areas like such as Ndunduma, Masimbe, Mbeure, and Chisavanye literally soaked in water.
• From the 12th of January, the rains have gone non-stop even disturbing the farming activities

Intercity bus in head on collision, driver dies

There are unverified reports of head-on collision between an Intercity Bus and a small truck that happen on Sunday morning about 70kms from Polokwane in South Africa.

Apparently, the bus was traveling from Bulawayo.

The accident is believed to have happened around 4am.

It is alleged that the bus driver died on the stop.

A WhatsApp message seen by Bulawayo24.com reads: "Guys can you follow up on your relatives who travelled by Intercity from byo, there is a fatal head collision accident which just happened 70kms from Polokwane and claimed the death of the bus driver with some passengers injured.the bus was from Byo and the accident happened at 4am"

Three Harare orphans left homeless:
Three orphaned children in Harare’s Westlea suburb have been left homeless after a relative sold their house two years after the death of their mother.
When Mr and Mrs Maricho died in 2007 and 2014 respectively, they left a house for their children.
In addition to challenges of being orphans, the children are now homeless after their mother’s sister Mrs Lucia Washaya allegedly sold the house without the approval of the children.
After the death of their mother, Locadia Maricho, the youngest child Tariro who was 12 by then was taken into the custody of Lucia Washaya who is her mother’s elder sister while the other brothers stayed at the family home.
