The Spuds redesign is a reminder that branding is emotional,
Not Just Visual.

As designers, we don’t only change colours, fonts and layouts. We touch memories. We touch familiarity. We touch the relationship people have built with a brand over many years.

Cairns modernising the Spuds package makes sense from a shelf-visibility point of view. The new colours make the flavours easier to separate, the packs feel more current, and the brand now has a louder presence in a competitive snack market.

But with a brand as nostalgic as Spuds, the real challenge is not just making it look new.

The challenge is making it feel like Spuds.

That’s where legacy brand redesigns become sensitive. People are not only reacting to the design itself. They are reacting to what the old pack represented: childhood, school tuckshops, road trips, family shopping, and a Zimbabwean snack many people grew up with.

This is why good design is never just about being pretty or trendy.
Good design must communicate.
Good design must connect.
Good design must respect what already exists while preparing the brand for where it needs to go.

A redesign should not completely erase memory.
It should refine it, strengthen it, and make it relevant for today’s market.

So before you rebrand, understand what your customers are emotionally attached to. Because sometimes the thing you think is “old” is actually the thing people trust the most.

Design is not decoration.
Design is strategy.
Design is memory.
Design is connection.
Design is business.

Your flyer should do more than look nice.
It should sell.

A good flyer must grab attention, communicate clearly, connect with the right audience, and make people want to take action. Whether you’re promoting food, an event, a service, a product, or your business, your design should speak before you even explain anything.

That’s what I focus on, creating flyer designs that are not just pretty, but purposeful, strategic, and built to communicate your message with impact.

Because in business, design is not decoration.
Design is communication. Design is marketing. Design is trust.

Your flyer should sell before you say a word.

Social media content design is not just about making a nice-looking post. It is about knowing the right approach, the message, layout, audience, offer, and call to action.

My work for Global Haul Freight is a good example. The goal was to create flyers that look professional, build trust, explain the service clearly, and encourage people to enquire.
In a space filled with amateur designs and rushed templates, your business needs content that stands out for the right reasons.

BREAKING NEWS:
The C.I.A. Finally Caught Up With Me

Turns out, the Creative Intelligence Agency doesn't take lightly to "unlawfully elevating brand identities" or "conspiring to eradicate average design." They threw the book at me, and the official charge is heavy: Being the Best Brand Designer in Southern Africa.

But don’t panic, I made bail.

And honestly? I haven't learned a single lesson. I'm a repeat offender and there’s absolutely no going back from here. Forward ever. If anything, this orange jumpsuit just motivated me to escalate my operations.

Consider this your official notification: I’m hitting the streets with even more engaging, brutally professional designs that communicate clearly and actually convert.

If you’re ready to build a brand that's dangerously good and leaves a lasting impression, you know who to call. The hustle continues!

And still… God called her home.
Happy Heavenly Mothers Day. Rest In Peace Amai.

A month ago, I came here and spoke about one of the hardest seasons of my life.
The hospital visits.
The exhaustion.
The silent battles.
The days I barely had strength to even open my laptop.

But through all of that, there was one thing giving me hope: my mother was getting better.

After months of seeing her bedridden, weak, and in pain… we finally saw light again.
Her operation was successful.
She was recovering so well.
And for the first time in a long time, our home felt alive again.

Seeing her stand up on her own,
Walk from the bedroom to the lounge..
Hearing the fridge open in the kitchen again…
Watching her slowly become herself again…

Those moments felt like miracles.

The small things became the biggest blessings.
Things we once took for granted suddenly became priceless memories happening right in front of us.

We truly believed we had more time.
We were already imagining the years ahead.
The conversations.
The laughter.
The healing.
The peace after the storm.

But life humbled us again.

Just a month later… she was gone.

And honestly, there’s no way to fully explain that kind of emptiness.

The house feels different.
The silence sounds different.
Even ordinary moments feel heavy now.

Sometimes I still catch myself wanting to call her, tell her something, or check on her… before reality settles in again.

It’s painful realizing how quickly life can change.
One moment you’re thanking God for recovery…
The next moment you’re trying to survive the loss.

We tried everything.
Every prayer.
Every hospital visit.
Every sleepless night.
Every ounce of hope.

And still… God called her home.

As painful as this is, one thing I’ve learned is that time belongs to God.
Plans belong to God.
Life belongs to God.

Not everything we pray for ends the way we hope.
Not every miracle looks the way we imagined it would.

But even through tears, heartbreak, confusion, and this unbearable emptiness… we still believe God does not make mistakes.
That doesn’t remove the pain.
It doesn’t make grieving easier.
It doesn’t suddenly fill the void she left behind.

But it reminds us that even when we do not understand the plan, God remains God.

And maybe that’s the hardest kind of faith…
Choosing to trust Him while your heart is shattered.

To everyone fighting silent battles, grieving privately, or trying to stay strong while carrying pain nobody sees… I pray God gives you strength.

Please hug your parents tighter.
Spend more time with the people you love.
Take more pictures.
Have the conversations.
Say the words while you still can.

Because sometimes life changes before you’re ready for it to.

Rest well, Mom.
Thank you for every sacrifice, every prayer, every lesson, every moment of love. You may be gone physically, but you will live in my heart for the rest of my life.

Happy Heavenly Mother's Day
❤️

AfriPrecast & Civils Logo Breakdown

The AfriPrecast & Civils logo was designed to represent strength, professionalism, African identity, and growth within the construction industry. The goal was to create a brand identity that feels reliable, modern, and strong across real-world applications like trucks, uniforms, signage, and construction materials.

Core Design Idea

The logo combines four key elements:
Afri + Africa Icon + P + Precast
“Afri” connects the brand directly to Africa and reinforces the company’s commitment to African infrastructure and development.
The Africa icon was customized to include the letter “P” for Precast, turning the symbol into a meaningful brand mark rather than just a map. This combination connects the company name, industry, and identity into one unified visual system.
“Precast” clearly communicates the company’s core service, while “And Civils” supports the broader construction and civil works division.

Symbol & Typography
The symbol represents African pride, structure, and progress. The split design within the Africa icon creates balance and movement while keeping the mark bold and recognizable.

The typography was carefully balanced:
“Afri” is bold and strong to represent stability and trust.
“Precast” uses a lighter, cleaner style to create contrast and a modern feel.
“And Civils” acts as a supporting element without overpowering the main identity.

Colour Choices
The logo uses navy blue, orange, and white.
Navy blue represents trust, professionalism, and reliability.
Orange symbolizes energy, construction, action, and progress.
White adds clarity, cleanliness, and balance
Charcoal represents strength, durability, sophistication, and the industrial nature of the construction industry. .
Together, the colours create a strong and professional construction identity.

Construction System
The logo was built using a structured grid system to maintain consistency, balance, and scalability across both print and digital applications. Clear space and minimum size rules ensure the logo remains clean and readable at all times.

Overall Meaning
The AfriPrecast & Civils logo is more than a symbol, it is a strategic identity designed to communicate trust, strength, African heritage, and construction excellence.

There’s something I don’t say enough…

Thank You.

To everyone who has referred someone to me, mentioned my name in a room I wasn’t in, shared my work, or simply told someone, “Talk to Hilary” I see you, and I appreciate you more than you know.

Referrals are not small things. They mean you trust me with your name, your reputation, and your relationships. That’s something I don’t take lightly at all. I always make sure to show my appreciation, even in small ways but truth is, I can never fully thank you enough.

Just know this…
Every client you send my way is in safe hands.
I treat every project with intention, respect, and a level of care that reflects back on you.
So when you refer me, you’re not just sending work… You’re building something with me.

And for that, I’m genuinely grateful.
