Mthokozisi Dube Scores Big: Renowned Football Writer Wins Prestigious Awards
Talented Zimbabwean🇿🇼-born football writer Mthokozisi Dube, emerged as the biggest winner at a glittering South African Football Journalists' Association [SAFJA] awards ceremony held in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Dube, who is spurring FARPost as editor, walked away with the Journalist of the Year award and Written Journalist of the Year award. The prestigious awards are sponsored Hollywoodbets.
The soft-spoken writer continues to make significant impact in journalism having excelled during his time with BBC Africa, the Daily Nation of Kenya and Mmegi of Botswana.
He also worked for The Chronicle of Zimbabwe as well as The New Age in South Africa where he won two awards, then as a Courts and Crime reporter.
In his brief acceptance speech, Dube said: "I'm really humbled to receive these awards. I'm really encouraged to keep working hard. I think journalism is changing every day and we obviously have to evolve.
"And we still need to maintain the ethics and make sure we're accurate and make sure that we write well.
"We write a lot and we strive to write well. I just want to thank SAFJA and the sponsors . This wouldn't be possible without you. We really appreciate you. This goes a long way," Dube said.
Meanwhile SoccerBeats' Neo Poho emerged as Young Journalist of the Year as Lonwabo Miso scooped the Broadcast Journalist of the Year. Khabba Cup was named the Kasi Tournament of the Year.
In addition, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners was crowned 2024/25 Hollywoodbets SAFJA Footballer of the Year. Boitumelo Rabale of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies won the confirmed Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024/25.
