The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has drawn public attention to Statutory Instrument 122 of 2026, the Electricity (Energy Management) Regulations, 2026, under its "Know Your Law" awareness campaign

The regulations are designed to establish essential standards, systems and practices for energy management in Zimbabwe. They seek to improve energy efficiency, reduce consumption and minimise environmental impact by setting guidelines and requirements for maximum demand consumers across all sectors of the economy.

Zimbabwe's drive to process more of its critical minerals at home has reached a key milestone, with the US$75 million Zulu Lithium Project entering its final hot commissioning phase

The high-tech spodumene concentrate plant is now fine-tuning its production lines in preparation for value-added exports. The development strengthens mineral beneficiation and positions Zimbabwe more firmly within global electric vehicle (EV) and battery supply chains

Zimbabwe's energy landscape is shifting, and the direction is an encouraging one. A combination of expanded generation capacity, renewed hydropower investment, and early moves into oil, gas and electric mobility is steadily reshaping a sector that has spent years working to overcome chronic shortages and rolling load-shedding.

At the centre of this progress is a significant increase in electricity-generation capacity, which has risen by 18.4 percent to reach approximately 1,800 MW, driven largely by the commissioning of Hwange Power Station's Units 7 and 8.

A group of farmers in Insiza District has embarked on the construction of Manzamnyama Dam, a privately funded water infrastructure project expected to bring 700 hectares of farmland under irrigation once complete, according to a post shared on social media by Eng. Bhovungane.

The dam, currently under construction, represents a notable example of farmer- driven investment in agricultural infrastructure, with the group financing the project independently rather than relying on government or donor funding

Proton Bakers has gone green with a new 1MVA solar energy system commissioned by Solar Energy Projects (SEP).

Featuring an extensive array of 1,788 high-efficiency solar panels, the installation harnesses Zimbabwe’s abundant sunshine to support Proton Bakers’ energy-intensive baking operations while reducing reliance on diesel generation.

The project also incorporates advanced battery storage, high-capacity solar inverters and a net-metering arrangement with ZETDC, helping provide greater energy resilience while enabling excess power generated during peak sunlight hours to be fed back into the national grid.

From rooftop solar arrays to a sophisticated power and storage system, the Proton Bakers project demonstrates how renewable energy is becoming an increasingly important part of Zimbabwe’s industrial future.

ZIMBABWE is currently exploring advanced nuclear technologies, particularly Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which are nuclear fission reactors that typically produce less that 300 megawatts (MW), to secure a stable and sustainable energy supply needed for the country's industrialisation drive.

Speaking at the 70th Regular General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, early this week, Energy and Power Development Minister July Moyo said nuclear science and technology have become an important component of Zimbabwe's development agenda
