*Music, Morals and Talent: A special Assembly Day with Pastor Leonard Karikoga Zhakata*
Tynwald Primary recently hosted a special assembly themed “Grooming Through Music, bringing learners together to celebrate talent, discipline and positive values. Pastor and legendary musician Leonard Karikoga Zhakata in an interview shared an inspiring story about his transformation sharing how he moved from being a secular artist to a pastor saying he was called by God and he answered the call.
Pastor Zhakata shared a strong message during the programme, stating that music is powerful and because of that influence learners must choose music that teaches good moral values and uplifts character.
Zhakata also performed and explained the meaning of his song “Yarutso,” describing it as a reflection on the struggles people face through different stages of life. The song encourages resilience, self-reflection and hope during life’s challenges perfectly aligning with the school’s efforts to use music as a tool for moral development.
To promote music education, Zhakata donated a keyboard to a learner who made a drawing of him when he was still a boy and another keyboard to the school’s music department.
The event highlighted how music continues to shape young people’s behaviour, values and talents within the Tynwald Primary community.
