ZimNews24 : A Zimbabwean petroleum engineer has achieved what many thought impossible in a small-scale setting: Tawana has designed and built functional, multi-feedstock oil refineries entirely from scratch, enabling him to produce certified diesel and petrol without relying on imported technology.

Tawana, who operates on a modest scale in Zimbabwe, has engineered custom-built systems capable of processing raw crude oil, waste engine oil, and pyrolysis oil into commercial-grade fuel.

His homemade refineries constructed without external funding or pre-fabricated components have successfully yielded certified diesel that meets industry standards, a feat he has documented and verified. Beyond crude processing, he has also refined thousands of litres of waste oil into usable diesel for industrial purposes.

Now, the self-sufficient engineer is turning to the global community not for aid, but for partnership. He is seeking investors and collaborators to help him scale his innovative, home-grown refining technology to address a national need, offering a blueprint for local fuel production that he built with his own hands.

ZimNews24 :Just days after being detained for cooking sadza on a Harare CBD pavement, the man from Zengeza who became an unlikely internet sensation has resurfaced online with a page, expressing joy and gratitude after his ordeal sparked a nationwide outpouring of sympathy and financial support.

The man, whose video cooking the national staple along a busy city street went viral earlier this week, was reportedly picked up by authorities, triggering a fierce public debate about economic survival versus urban by-laws . However, the story has taken a dramatic and heartwarming turn.

In a new post on his freshly created page, the Zengeza resident conveyed his happiness at the public’s reaction. According to details from the post, he is overwhelmed by the fact that people from different parts of the country have not only sympathized with his situation but have also begun offering him help .

The wave of generosity was kickstarted by prominent businesswoman Olinda Chapel, who publicly pledged US$1,000 to compensate him for the loss of earnings.

The initial video had split opinion across Zimbabwean social media. While some viewers expressed "major respect" for his entrepreneurial hustle in the face of harsh economic realities, others raised concerns about hygiene and the lack of regulated spaces for food preparation in the CBD .

ZimNews24 : Bona Mugabe, the daughter of late former president Robert Mugabe, has been appointed deputy chairperson of EmpowerBank’s board as part of a new seven-member leadership team gazetted by the Youth Empowerment Ministry.

Bona has been named the deputy chairperson of the board of EmpowerBank, following the dissolution of the previous board and the installation of a new seven-member leadership team. Her appointment was formally gazetted in Statutory Instrument 132 of 2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Solomon Mhlanga.

The appointments were made by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire. William Chaitezvi will chair the new board, with Chikore serving as his deputy for a full four-year term.

The new board also includes members Margaret Mupfiga, Patience Matshe, Ebrahim Ali Makunganya, Marcos Nyaruwanga, and Peter Makotsi. According to the gazette, the appointments were made in accordance with the provisions of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act, which governs the appointment of boards in parastatals.

Bona Mugabe, an economist by training and the eldest daughter of Zimbabwe’s late founding father, has largely remained out of the political and public sector spotlight since her father was removed from power in 2017. Her new role places her at the helm of a financial institution tasked with supporting youth enterprise and economic empowerment.

ZimNews24 : Maud Chifamba, who became Zimbabwe’s youngest university graduate a decade ago, is now using her platform to uplift others, launching a scholarship fund aimed at giving one financially disadvantaged female student the same opportunity she embraced.

Chifamba, who captured the nation's attention ten years ago by graduating at a remarkably young age, announced the launch of the scholarship fund this week. The initiative will cover university fees for one deserving student starting in 2026.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must have already applied to a local university. They are required to have passed O-Level English and Mathematics and attained a minimum of 14 A-Level points. Candidates must also clearly demonstrate financial need.

As part of the selection process, hopefuls are asked to submit a 500 to 800 word essay answering the question: “Ten years from now, who do you hope to become and why?”

Applications are now open. The deadline for submissions is 23 March 2026.
