ZimNews24 : Bona Mugabe, the daughter of late former president Robert Mugabe, has been appointed deputy chairperson of EmpowerBank’s board as part of a new seven-member leadership team gazetted by the Youth Empowerment Ministry.
Bona has been named the deputy chairperson of the board of EmpowerBank, following the dissolution of the previous board and the installation of a new seven-member leadership team. Her appointment was formally gazetted in Statutory Instrument 132 of 2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Solomon Mhlanga.
The appointments were made by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire. William Chaitezvi will chair the new board, with Chikore serving as his deputy for a full four-year term.
The new board also includes members Margaret Mupfiga, Patience Matshe, Ebrahim Ali Makunganya, Marcos Nyaruwanga, and Peter Makotsi. According to the gazette, the appointments were made in accordance with the provisions of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act, which governs the appointment of boards in parastatals.
Bona Mugabe, an economist by training and the eldest daughter of Zimbabwe’s late founding father, has largely remained out of the political and public sector spotlight since her father was removed from power in 2017. Her new role places her at the helm of a financial institution tasked with supporting youth enterprise and economic empowerment.
