ZimNews24 : Svikiro on a Rolls: Prophet Uebert Angel's Number Plate Sparks Debate on Faith and Identity

A luxury statement has ignited a cultural and spiritual conversation across Zimbabwe. Prophet Uebert Angel, the UK-based televangelist and Zimbabwean Presidential Envoy, has been spotted driving a Rolls-Royce Cullinan bearing a number plate that reads simply, "Svikiro."

The customised plates on the high-end SUV have drawn intense public reaction, with many interpreting the choice as a deliberate theological declaration. In Shona culture, a svikiro is a traditional spirit medium who acts as a bridge between the physical world and the spiritual realm, derived from the verb kusvika ("to arrive at" or "to reach"), referring to one who is "arrived upon" by an ancestral spirit. Historically, the svikiro held significant authority in Shona society, offering guidance through visions, performing healing rituals, and protecting their communities.

By adopting this title, Prophet Angel a prominent advocate of the prosperity gospel appears to be aligning himself with this ancient authority. For his supporters, the "Svikiro" plate is a bold affirmation of his identity and calling, a reminder that like the traditional spirit medium, he sees himself as a vessel carrying divine messages to the people, bridging heaven and earth in his prophetic ministry.

They also view it as a proud embrace of African spiritual heritage, reclaiming the term not as pagan but as a symbol of deep connection to ancestral roots that inform his modern-day ministry. Furthermore, they see it as a reflection of transformation what was once a traditional medium is now fulfilled in a prophet who carries the Spirit of God, showing that true spiritual authority transcends time and culture. Ultimately, for his followers, it serves as a conversation starter, reminding believers that God can use anyone, even in the most modern settings, to speak into the lives of His people just as the svikiro once did for the ancestors.

ZimNews24 : From Rejected Manuscript to Global Sensation: Sue Nyathi’s ‘The Polygamist’ Takes Netflix by Storm

What was once a manuscript rejected by major publishers has become one of the most talked-about television events of the year. Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi’s debut novel, The Polygamist, has been adapted into a 22-episode Netflix supernovela that has captivated audiences and trended at number one in South Africa and beyond .

The series, which premiered on June 12, 2026, marks a monumental achievement for Nyathi and a significant moment for African storytelling . Produced by the award-winning Stained Glass Productions (The Wife, Uzalo), the show boasts a star-studded cast including Sdumo Mtshali as the charismatic yet flawed CEO Jonasi Gomora and Gugu Gumede as his formidable first wife, Joyce . The drama weaves a tale of power, betrayal, and secrets, exploring the collapse of a man’s carefully curated empire under the weight of his choices and the women who hold a mirror to his life .

Nyathi’s path to this global platform was far from easy. After facing a round of rejections from mainstream publishing houses, she self-published The Polygamist in 2012 . The novel eventually became a word-of-mouth sensation, but its journey did not stop there. Over a decade later, the story has been reimagined for a contemporary South African setting, bringing her work to an audience she once thought unreachable .

Reflecting on the milestone, Nyathi described the adaptation as both humbling and deeply affirming, stating, "The idea has always been there, but it was waiting for the right moment to take shape. I truly believe that God makes everything beautiful in His time" . She further noted that the success represents a broader shift in the entertainment landscape, where "African stories are finally getting the visibility they deserve" .

For many, Nyathi’s success is a powerful reminder that circumstances do not define one's future. Her journey from a rejected manuscript to a trending Netflix series is a testament to the power of discipline, perseverance, and self-belief . It highlights the importance of investing in one’s intellectual pursuits and refusing to allow obstacles to hold you back.

Her achievement is particularly resonant for the Zimbabwean and broader African creative community, symbolizing that local stories can command a global stage . Nyathi views this success as a symbolic win for her home city, Bulawayo, and hopes it encourages young creatives to pursue their ambitions . "This is bigger than me," she said. "It shows that Zimbabwean stories belong on the global stage" .

Since its release, The Polygamist has not only garnered top viewing figures but has also sparked intense debate across social media. Viewers have praised the series as a "10/10 minus nothing" triumph, lauding its raw and unfiltered look at family dynamics, marriage, and patriarchy .

However, the show's gripping and polarizing plot twists have left fans fiercely divided, with many demanding answers and a potential second season . The widespread conversation is a testament to the show’s ability to resonate deeply with audiences, forcing a mirror onto society and opening dialogues on cultural realities .

Nyathi’s story is proof that hard work, perseverance, and faith in one’s abilities can eventually produce extraordinary results. As she continues to celebrate this win, her journey stands as a shining example of what is possible when dedication and excellence are allowed to flourish, proving that success is not diminished when shared but can instead inspire countless others to pursue their own dreams.

ZimNews24 : A Zimbabwean whiz-kid who scored a perfect 35 points on his A-Level exams says he is on a mission to help cure cancer, as he begins his medical training despite coming from a poor rural background.

A smart young man from Zimbabwe, Simeon Maganga, did very well in his A-Level exams. He scored 35 points in seven subjects, including Maths, Science, and Biology. Now, he is studying to become a doctor.

Simeon grew up poor. He went to primary school in a rural area called Chirumanzu. He says his difficult background pushes him to work harder. "When people look down upon you, you feel challenged and want to prove them wrong," he said.

His big dream is to help find ways to fight cancer. Even though he is still a medical student, he has already started a project to study cancer articles and data. "I launched a project which I hope will help to cure cancer," he explained. He uses his strong skills in statistics to help with this work.

According to H Metro, Simeon also faced accusations from some people who called him "m@d" because he is so good at his studies. He responded by saying that handling pressure well is the key to staying mentally healthy.

In the future, Simeon wants to specialise in neurosurgery. He also won a scholarship from Delta to support his education in Zimbabwe before he possibly travels abroad later.
