From DJ Peter Johns page:
Peter Johns, affectionately known as "The Radio Driver," was one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved and influential radio DJs. He rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as a star presenter on ZBC Radio Three (now Power FM), where his charismatic voice, impeccable music taste, and warm, engaging style earned him a legendary status.
He became a defining figure on Radio Three, hosting popular shows like "The Midday Jam" and "The Hitsville top 20". His playlists, blending international pop, R&B, soul, and local hits, captured the spirit of a young, vibrant Zimbabwe and influenced an entire generation's musical tastes.
Known for his jingles and smooth transitions, Peter Johns wasn't just a DJ — he was a cultural bridge, introducing Zimbabwean audiences to global sounds while celebrating local talent. His easy rapport with listeners and ability to tell stories through music made him a trusted companion in many homes.
Later in life, Peter Johns moved to the United Kingdom but remained a revered figure back home. His death in 2020 after a battle with kidney failure was met with widespread mourning, tributes pouring in from fans, fellow broadcasters, and musicians who credited him with inspiring their journeys.
Peter Johns’ legacy is one of joy, passion, and timeless influence — a true pioneer who helped shape Zimbabwe’s modern radio landscape and who continues to inspire broadcasters across the region.
Peter Johns’ legacy lives on through his son, who has created https://www.TheRadioDriver.com — a digital home where fans, friends, and colleagues can continue to share memories and tributes. Over time, the site will grow to include photos, stories, and archival content, keeping Peter’s spirit alive for future generations who want to remember the voice that once moved a nation.
