Govt Launches Digital Centres in Matabeleland SouthThe Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, has launched two digital centres in Matabeleland South. The first centre was commissioned at Tshelanyemba on Tuesday, followed by Mawabeni in Umzingwane District on Wednesday 4 September 2025.Officiating at the events, ICT Minister Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, alongside her Deputy Minister Hon Dingumuzi Phuti, reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive digital transformation. The initiative received strong backing from ICT players including NetOne, TelOne, Econet, Dandemutande and the regulator POTRAZ.The digital centres are designed to empower rural communities by providing access to learning, market opportunities, entrepreneurship and family services, thereby bridging the urban-rural digital divide.Hon Minister T Mavetera noted that rebranding Community Information Centres into Digital Centres reflects their broader role in driving technology integration, in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of achieving an upper-middle-income economy without leaving anyone behind.
