Your CV can't explain itself. That's what a cover letter is for.
Three things a CV raises but can never answer π
β The gap. Two years with nothing on the page. The reader will invent a reason, and it usually isn't a kind one. One line β you were caring for family, you were ill, a business didn't work out β and it's gone. The gap is rarely the problem. The unexplained gap is.
β The career change. You can see how your experience transfers. Someone reading eighty applications in an afternoon cannot. Say it out loud.
β The requirement you don't meet. You've got four out of five. Saying nothing looks like you didn't notice. Naming it and explaining what makes up for it looks like judgement.
This is why "I am writing to express my keen interest in this position" is such a waste of space, it's the one place you get to explain yourself, and it's spent saying nothing.
Our free Cover Letter Generator writes to the specific job advert. Then add the part only you can: why the gap, why the change, why this job.
