From Olympic champion to global sports leader, Kirsty Coventry is a Zimbabwean politician, sports administrator, and former swimmer whose career has redefined African excellence on the world stage. In 2025, she made history as the first woman, first African, and first Zimbabwean to become President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), marking a new chapter for the Olympic Movement.

Widely regarded as Africa’s most decorated Olympian, Coventry won seven Olympic medals across the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games. Her achievements elevated Zimbabwe on the global sporting stage and cemented her legacy as one of the greatest swimmers in Olympic history.

Beyond competition, she has played a leading role in sports governance, serving as Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation (2018–2025) and previously chairing the IOC Athletes’ Commission, where she championed athlete representation and the future of the Olympic Movement.

Her public career has also attracted scrutiny due to her service in Zimbabwe’s government under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, with critics questioning her association with the country’s political leadership alongside recognition of her contributions to sport.

The global fashion industry is worth an close to US$1.7 trillion, yet Africa’s fashion sector represents just US$31 billion around 1.2% of the global market despite the continent’s immense creative and cultural influence.

Africa exports US$15.5 billion in textiles each year, while importing US$23.1 billion worth of clothing, textiles, and footwear highlighting the untapped potential for local manufacturing and homegrown brands.

Supporting African fashion is more than a style choice. It’s an investment in designers, artisans, jobs, and an industry with the power to redefine fashion on its own terms.

The future of fashion shouldn’t only be inspired by Africa it should be built with Africa.

As part of a strategic succession plan, Dangote has appointed his three daughters to expanded leadership roles across the Dangote Group, positioning them at the forefront of the conglomerate’s next phase of growth.
🔹 Halima Dangote will oversee the Family Office and international operations in Dubai and London.
🔹 Fatima Dangote takes charge of commercial operations across the Group’s oil, gas, refinery, and energy businesses.
🔹 Mariya Dangote will lead commercial strategy for the cement and food divisions.
The move comes as Dangote pursues an ambitious vision to grow the Group into a $100 billion enterprise within the next four years, while strengthening operational leadership across its businesses in 17 African countries.
