New Digital Service Tax will impact content creators and Indrive service❗

The Finance Minister has rolled out a Digital Services Withholding Tax that will take over from VAT. Some folks are getting it wrong – it won’t be taken from Indrive drivers; instead, it’s applied when the customer pays for the service, so it hits the end‑user (the importer of the service). Banks that issue Visa and similar cards will be on the hook for collecting the tax, which could push up the price of international services. Zimbabwe already has deals with Spotify, Facebook, Netflix, Starlink and the like, where those firms collect VAT at the point of sale and pass the money back to the government. If the state isn’t careful, this move could steer customers away from locally‑issued cards and toward alternative payment methods like vouchers for overseas purchases.

Thinking about betting? The 2026 budget isn’t friendly⁉️

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube first slapped a 10 % tax on winnings last year and now plans to raise it to 25 %— so 25 cents of every dollar you win goes straight to ZIMRA. He’s also hiking the Bookmakers Tax from 3 % to 20 % of gross revenue. Ncube says the local betting sector grew 8‑10 % between 2023 and 2024, but profit‑shifting and under‑declaration have left the fast‑expanding industry under‑taxed.

Zimbabwe is set to roll out a major overhaul that could revoke mining licences for environmental breaches. Mines Minister Winston Chitando announced that the new “Responsible Mining Initiative Part 2” will impose tighter monitoring and stricter rehabilitation obligations.

Civil‑society groups and local communities have long condemned the sector for pollution, unsafe operations and a lack of accountability, and the government says the tougher regulations are meant to protect ecosystems while ensuring mining contributes to sustainable national development.
