🇿🇼🇬🇧 7 Weeks On, Kay Cie Still Not Buried Amid Family Dispute
It has now been 7 weeks since the sudden passing of popular UK-based Zimbabwean music promoter and DJ Kay Cie (real name Kudzi Chipadza) but he has still not been laid to rest.
Sources close to the matter reveal a bitter standoff between Kay Cie’s family and his ex-wife, Bev Hanyani, which has left the burial process in limbo. Although the couple had been divorced for 2 years at the time of his death, Bev is reportedly listed as next of kin and currently holds exclusive access to key documents and the coroner’s office.
An initial agreement for burial was scheduled for July 4, following the Chipadza family’s purchase of a burial site. However, tensions flared when Bev allegedly demanded a second plot insisting she wanted to be buried next to Kay Cie when her time comes.
It is further alleged that Bev’s sister has been actively involved in escalating the conflict.
Efforts by neutral parties to mediate have failed, and Kay Cie’s brother has since left the UK and returned abroad.
Kay Cie is believed to have died from a suspected cardiac arrest on June 2 in a hotel room. Yet, official postmortem results and statements remain unreleased.
In a show of desperation and mounting frustration, sources close to the Chipadza family say that Kay Cie’s mother and her camp have already spent over £2k in legal fees excluding mortuary and other funeral-related costs.
Despite the Chipadza family purchasing the burial plot, there’s now growing concern that Kay Cie could tragically end up being buried as a pauper, should the legal deadlock persist.
