Meet Penina Dzinotizei a young, focused woman from my beloved province, Masvingo. She reached out to us just last month, looking for someone to help her publish her book. Friday Encouragement from Phoenix Publishing..,

Hello writers!

If the words aren’t flowing today, don’t be too hard on yourself. Every writer no matter how seasoned, has faced the wall that is writer’s block. The good news? It’s not permanent. Here are five gentle but powerful tips to keep writer’s block at bay:

1. Write through the block
Don’t wait for inspiration, show up and write anyway. Even a paragraph or a sentence a day keeps the creativity in motion.

2. Change your scenery
A fresh environment can do wonders for your imagination. Step outside, sit by a window, or work from a cosy café.

3. Read something different
Reading outside your genre or style can spark unexpected ideas. Let another author’s words reignite yours.

4. Set small, kind goals
Don’t aim for a chapter start with a paragraph. Achievable goals build confidence and rhythm.

5. Rest is part of the process
Some days, the best thing you can do for your writing is to walk away, breathe, and let your mind reset.

Remember: You are a writer even on the quiet days. Keep going, keep growing.

With ink and heart,
Phoenix Publishing

📚 NEW BOOK ALERT
Fighting for My Birthright by Gwinyai Mataruka
Published by Phoenix Publishing

I’ve had the honour of editing and publishing many stories over the past 4 years since the conception of Phoenix Publishing, but this one held me differently.

Set in 1977, Fighting for My Birthright is a fictionalized biography of a 15-year-old boy who leaves school to join the liberation struggle for Zimbabwe’s independence. When war erupts, he’s forced to cross the border into Mozambique to train with fellow comrades. In the chaos of battle, he faces a harrowing moment: pulling the trigger on his own Black brother—fighting on the opposite side.

This book is not just about war.
It’s about mental anguish, spiritual unrest, emotional scars, and the heavy cost of freedom.
It journeys through Zimbabwe’s past into the era of the Blood Diamond crisis—layered with grief, sacrifice, and survival.

Working on this book humbled me. Deeply.
I fell more in love with the motherland—Zimbabwe.
I gained a deeper appreciation for the courage of those who laid down their lives, so we could be born into a free nation. Even in today’s complex realities, we honour the brave hearts who fought with everything they had.

To Gwinyai Mataruka—congratulations on this powerful piece of storytelling.
Your courage to fictionalize and yet still tell raw truth is unforgettable.

To our readers: if you’re ready for a story that moves your heart, challenges your mind, and makes you grateful for your roots—Fighting for My Birthright is your next read.

To aspiring authors: if you have a story to tell, we at Phoenix Publishing would be honoured to help you bring it to life. Your words could shape futures.

🖤📖
Let us never forget the cost of the birthright we now carry.

New Book Release – Wisdom Diaries by Dr. Manners Muso

We are incredibly proud to announce the release of Wisdom Diaries – a powerful and timely book written by Dr. Manners Msongelwa, specially crafted for high school-going students. This book is filled with nuggets of wisdom to help young people navigate the often complex and emotionally challenging season of high school.

From topics such as bullying, laziness, identity, self-discipline, and overcoming peer pressure, this book is not just a read — it’s a tool. A tool to help shape character, build resilience, and spark intentional thinking in the next generation.

This is Dr. Msongelwa’s second project with us in two consecutive years, and we are deeply honoured that he continues to trust us with his vision. His dedication to youth empowerment and personal development is truly inspiring, and it has been a blessing to collaborate with someone so intentional about impacting future leaders.

To every parent, educator, and mentor — this book is a must-have for the young people in your care. These are conversations we all wish we had earlier in life. Let’s gift this generation with the wisdom to thrive, not just survive, through high school.

Some lessons I’ve taken from working with Dr. Msongelwa:
• Invest in the next generation with intention.
• Don’t wait until it’s too late to talk about what matters.
• Personal development is not just for adults — teens need it too.

Congratulations again, Dr. Msongelwa. We look forward to many more meaningful projects together!

I’m delighted to share that we’ve just completed work on a powerful new book with Albert Munyanyi whom regardless of his protests l always jokingly call “pastor” due to his demeanour and knowledge of the Word of God.

This book speaks directly to the heart, addressing real issues of faith, hopelessness, and doubt that many face quietly in challenging seasons of life. It’s not just a book—it’s a reminder that even in silence, God is present and working.

Working with Albert has been both humbling and enlightening. A few things this experience has taught me:
1. The Word of God remains timeless—Albert’s depth of scripture reminds us that God’s promises still stand, no matter the season.
2. People carry silent battles—and literature like this helps bring comfort and perspective to those inner storms.
3. Collaboration with purpose matters—when two people work together to shine light in dark places, the result is truly impactful.

For those interested in ordering a copy of the book, Albert’s contact details are available on the flyer below. Please feel free to reach out to him directly.

Thank you for trusting us with your work and continue to create work that lifts others in their quiet moments of need.

7 months ago we received an invitation to the Iranian Cultural Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe to come discuss a prospective publishing project that they had. We honoured the invitation and sat down for a conversation that lasted well over an hour. What followed was a tour of the Iranian museum/library at the centre premises and a series of exchanges of the book, covers and approvals from the man running the cultural center (Hamid Bakhtiyar).

We hadn’t landed on their desk by accident, we had come highly recommended by the legendary retired Irene Staunton of Weaver Press. See, Irene retired December 2023 and she had published the cultural centre’s first book. And when they went to publish this second one, she had closed down operations and she recommended us for it.

We are pleased to share that having been the trusted recommendation, we rose to the occasion for our first international project and we delivered. Yesterday we delivered a batch of 100 copies. Published and printed in house.

We are grateful to have been trusted with this work. Our team, ever so up for the challenge took it on and delivered an amazing experience that was seamless and without doubt we know we have the best team for any publishing project.

To that end, we made the news and we are grateful. Here’s the link for the article: https://en.icro.ir/Harare-News/CULTURAL-CENTRE-PUBLISHES-FIRST-IRANIAN-HISTORY-BOOK-IN-ZIMBABWE

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Iran Cultural Centre in for trusting with this work, and thank all those who have trusted us, recommended us and believed in us.
