On Thursday, 2 July 2026, the Impact Stories Zimbabwe team conducted an Administrative Justice training for community champions at Maveni shopping centre in Ward 10, Chiwundura, as part of an initiative to strengthen access to justice and promote accountable governance at the grassroots level.
The training equipped 50 community champions from Maveni, Varozvi, and Mateza villages with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand Zimbabwe's administrative justice system and effectively respond to maladministration in public institutions.
The Administrative Justice training empowers rural communities to understand their rights, overcome barriers to accessing justice, and engage with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) in its Public Protector role under Section 243(1)(e) of Zimbabwe's Constitution.
The initiative targeted reaching underserved groups, including women, young people, older persons, and persons with disabilities who often face challenges such as high travel costs, limited access to information, disability barriers, illiteracy, gender inequality, and the normalisation of corruption and poor administrative practices.
Through this training, community champions are now equipped to:
✅ Lodge complaints with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
✅ Participate in ZHRC outreach programmes.
✅ Advocate for improved public service delivery and legislative reforms.
✅ Promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive justice within their communities.
This initiative is being implemented by Impact Stories Zimbabwe in partnership with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), the Centre for Applied Legal Research and the Alliance of Community Based Organisations - ACBOs with financial support from the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
When communities understand their rights and know how to demand accountability, they become active participants in building stronger institutions and a more just Zimbabwe.
