The poor Billionaire
In 2008 we recorded the highest rates of inflation on the continent. Nearly everyone was a billionaire in figures and ironically poor in terms of the buying power. In today’s society can we say we have an updated version of The Poor Billionaire? And instead of being economic it has become more social. Societal inflation has hit the streets. There has been a devaluation of the most important needs in our lives in the benefit of following trends.
The value (what’s important to us) and figures (views, likes, downloads and shares) has become the primary need of everyone. Social networks have emerged to become the most trusted sources of information .He who gets the most likes becomes the most influential. The society has been flooded by people who instead of using their hands to work are working to get hand-outs.
Women now only appreciate their man on Mondays (Man Crush Monday) it’s sad that we only spoil ourselves on terrific Tuesdays. Gentlemen only appreciate their crushes on Wednesday because its women crush Wednesday (WCW) .We now only look back at our memories on Throw Back Thursdays (TBT) and we only wait for Friday to thank God because its (TGIF).

Growing my dad used repeatedly say “Time is money but you can’t buy time” whenever he said that statement, I used to laugh my lungs out because I thought he wasn’t making sense. I would laugh and say “Daddy apa mukudhomoka” I would think if time is money how much is 12:00 hrs. Growing up now I started realizing that he was making real sense, all he meant was that we should value time.
We should never say we have time because time doesn’t belong to us, you can own a watch but you can’t own time you can buy an expensive watch (maybe a Rolex or a gold watch) but its you who makes your time valuable. We should always remember that our time is limited and the best time to start is now when we still have time.
The greatest gift that God gave us is life and the most valuable assert he gave us is time, we should always remember to make the most out of it. I remember one time listening to a video that was mentioning that: we should deny being oxygen thieves, just living and not leaving a mark on earth and only being signaled by tombstones written our names.
Let’s learn to use time whilst its still on our side, the moment we waste time we become dinosaurs we are reduced into victims of time and then we disappear in existence hence becoming extinct. Time is given value by the type of decisions we make in each and every moment.
Dr Oliver Mtukudzi in one of his songs said “nguva handi yedu ine varidzi nguva iyi” so let’s make the most out of our time.
