Thomas Muzamba gets an emotional send off in Msuna as priests, nuns and hundreds of mourners pay their last respects to a man held in high esteem.
On Thursday 28 May 2026 life came to a standstill in Msuna village as people from all walks of life thronged the late Thomas Muzamba’s homestead to bid him farewell while some doubting Thomases wanted to see for themselves if indeed God had taken one of their jewels. Muzamba was one of the 8 Victoria Falls Catholics whose lives were cut short by a road accident when the vehicle they were travelling in on their way from an all night prayer at St Johns Makwa plunged into Deka River on 23 May 2026.
Mourners came from as far as Victoria Falls, Hwange, Bulawayo, Gwanda and surrounding areas that include Makwa and Simangani. Priests who include Fr. Moment Mwiinde, Fr. Tim Peacock, Fr Albert Mudenda, Fr. Morris Nyoni and Fr. Tascisious Munkombwe were in attendance. In his message during the homily, Fr Munkombwe implored everyone to be humble and remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ regardless of their circumstances.
The atmosphere turned tense with grief as mourners weeped uncontrollably with the faint-hearted ones collapsing during body viewing as it finally dawned on them that their beloved Thomas Muzamba was indeed gone.
In a heart-wrenching and touching moment, Sethi Muzamba, a survivor of the accident which took her husband’s life requested to see her husband’s face for the last time just as the undertakers had closed and were about to lower the casket into the grave. They obliged and opened it. With shaky legs, she moved closer, knelt down, tears streaming down her face, and said something in a shaky voice before waving him goodbye. This accident robbed her of a husband, friend, confidante, pillar, breadwinner and father to their 4 children. One could only imagine how heartbroken and shattered she was.
