31-year-old Clayton Nyathi from Breakfast in Matetsi, Hwange, has been remanded in custody to June 30, 2025, by the Hwange Magistrates’ Court on a charge of attempted murder.

The alleged incident took place on June 13 along Gundafolosi Road, where Nyathi is said to have stabbed Jacob Khumalo during a heated confrontation.

Reports indicate that Nyathi, who was leading an ox-drawn scotch cart, allegedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Khumalo in the stomach, rendering him unconscious.

A passerby alerted the authorities, and Khumalo was rushed to Victoria Falls Hospital before being transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

*Govt Unveils $65.5 Million Horticulture Initiative to Support 50,000 Farmers*

In partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), the government has launched the Horticulture Enterprise Enhancement Project (HEEP), a $65.5 million initiative aimed at empowering 50,000 smallholder farmers nationwide.

Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Hon. Vangelis Haritatos, said HEEP will boost food security, increase incomes, and strengthen sustainable horticultural value chains. The project plans to establish 620 commercial village business units, benefiting farmers directly and supporting rural economic growth.

*Government to Prohibit Exports of Lithium Concentrates Starting 2027*

The government has announced plans to ban the export of lithium concentrates beginning January 2027, a strategic move aimed at promoting local beneficiation and unlocking greater value within Zimbabwe’s lithium mining sector.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Hon. Winston Chitando, who said the policy shift is part of a broader effort to strengthen domestic industrial capacity and ensure that the country fully benefits from its growing role in the global battery minerals supply chain.

Hon. Chitando revealed that two major producers, Bikita Minerals and Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe are already investing in processing facilities to manufacture lithium sulfate, a key precursor in battery production.

Major Boost for Bosso as Chivhayo Pledges $1 Million

Businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has pledged a $1 million sponsorship to Highlanders FC for the upcoming year, beginning with an initial $250,000 cash injection to support administrative operations.

In a Facebook post, Chivhayo announced the appointment of Jabulani Nkomo as curator to ensure proper allocation of the funds, with a focus on player welfare and operational efficiency.

He believes the sponsorship will help Highlanders attract new talent and cover signing fees, boosting competition in the 2025 Premier Soccer League.

Chivhayo emphasized that private-sector involvement is key to the growth of Zimbabwean football and supports President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which encourages collaboration between businesses and government to achieve national development.
