Next weekend is bringing a little country to Chestermere. 🤠🐎

The Chestermere Country Fair is happening Saturday, September 12 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, with a full day of rodeo action, family activities and some classic country fair fun.

Catch junior bull riding and mutton bustin’, cheer on the zucchini car races and grab a slice of pie with ice cream from the Chestermere Whitecappers when you need a break from the action. 🥧

The day starts with the community parade at 10 AM from the Chestermere Family Bike Park, making its way north along West Chestermere Drive before finishing at the recreation centre.

Your weekend movie plans are covered, and they won’t cost you anything. 🎬🍿

Cinema on 17th is bringing three days of FREE outdoor movies to Tomkins Park from September 11 to 13, with 11 films playing throughout the weekend.

The lineup includes Little Shop of Horrors on Friday, Moulin Rouge on Saturday and The Princess Bride on Sunday, plus plenty more to catch in between. 🎥

And it’s not just movies. Saturday morning starts with a cartoon block from 9 AM to noon with the Calgary Underground Film Festival, while live performances from B!G Art and Cirque de la Nuit will also be happening throughout the weekend.

Bring a lawn chair, pack a cozy blanket and grab something to eat from one of the nearby 17th Ave spots before settling in for a movie outside. ✨

Burlesque, drag and a whole lot of rhinestones are taking over a coffee shop this September. ✨☕️

is bringing Odditease Origins to on September 12, with a show inspired by culture, heritage, identity and the people and stories that shape who we are.

Headliner Bree Vybes will take the stage alongside special guests Sugar Calavera and Mama Diva Dawn, plus Odditease Collective performers Gingerella, Eddi Wetter, Ruby Reigns and Billie iDoll. Expect plenty of drag, burlesque, sass, shimmy and sparkle throughout the night. 💃✨

There’s no bar at Congress Coffee, but coffee, tea and other non-alcoholic drinks will be available. Make sure to bring cash for tips and drinks, or you can pay by tap.

Calgary’s Curbside Treasure Hunt is happening September 12 and 13, giving unwanted items a second chance while letting Calgarians hunt for some completely free finds.

Have furniture, books, toys, home décor or other gently used items you no longer need? Place them on your property next to the sidewalk or curb with a “Free” sign so someone else can give them a new home. ♻️

Then head out around the city and see what treasures your neighbours have left up for grabs!

Calgary’s Battle of the Bands is officially underway, and there’s still plenty of time to catch the competition live. 🎸👀

Local bands are taking the stage at The King’s Head Eatery & Music Room throughout September and October, competing for the chance to open for Said The Whale and Fionn in Banff at X92.9’s One Weekend Only 20th anniversary celebration. 🤘

Each round puts local bands in front of industry judges, with the audience also getting a say in who moves forward.

And you don’t have to be competing to get in on it. The shows are FREE to watch, making this a pretty easy Thursday night date if you’re into discovering local music. 🎶

Zombieland is playing for FREE at High Park on September 3 as part of the Movies with a View outdoor movie series.

The movie will be shown on a huge 30-foot screen from the rooftop of the City Centre Parkade, with downtown Calgary as the backdrop. Bring your own chair or blanket, grab some popcorn and settle in for a horror-comedy movie night under the stars. 🍿🧟

Your Saturday night plans could involve unlimited midway rides, live music and a trip back to the 1920s. 🥂🎡

GEMS JAM is bringing an adults-only night to on September 12, with the park staying open late for an evening inspired by the glamour of the Roaring Twenties.

Catch and performing live, while buskers and other entertainment pop up throughout the park. You can ride the Antique Midway as many times as you want, check out vintage cars and motorcycles, and dressing for the decade is highly encouraged. ✨

The night doesn’t end when the park festivities do either. At 11 PM, the party moves into Gasoline Alley Museum for an after-party running until 1 AM. 🪩
