Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.

Elon Musk is one of my Council members, a mentor I visit in meditation for guidance. He reminds me to think bigger than my fears, to back vision with hard work, and to treat impossible goals as problems waiting for a better question, a better plan, and relentless effort.

His journey from curious kid in South Africa, to immigrant entrepreneur, to the mind behind companies like Tesla and SpaceX shows what happens when you refuse to lower your sights. He proved that risk is the price of meaningful progress, that obsession with learning fuels innovation, and that you can push entire industries forward by staying loyal to a mission, not just a comfort zone.

What I take from him today is simple, dream at scale, put skin in the game, embrace hard problems, build for the future not just the moment, keep iterating when it breaks, and aim for the stars even when you are still on the ground.

Mother Teresa is one of my Council members, a mentor I visit in meditation for guidance. She reminds me that small acts done with great love change lives. She calls me to simplicity, to serve the person right in front of me, and to carry quiet courage into noisy rooms.

Her work with the Missionaries of Charity brought dignity to the sick, the dying, and the forgotten, from Kolkata to communities around the world. She showed that presence is medicine, that service speaks louder than words, and that compassion deepens when we choose the lowest seat.

What I take from her today is simple, slow down, make space for silence, do the next small thing well, and let love guide the next step.

Les Brown is one of my Council members, a mentor I visit in meditation for guidance. He reminds me to bet on myself, to speak from the heart, and to choose faith, courage, and action over fear.

His journey from being adopted and labeled, to radio host, state legislator, and world class speaker opened doors for voices that felt overlooked. He showed that practice and repetition shape the message, that discipline and service turn pain into purpose, and that one story said with heart can change a room.

What I take from him today is simple, feed the dream daily, say it is possible, keep showing up, outwork the excuse, stay hungry for the work, and it’s not over until you win!

I’m aware I currently lack the skills and knowledge to join a team like SpaceX. I am not delusional. But I am confident in myself, in my beliefs, in my purpose, and in my ability to learn and grow. I will not set barriers and limits on myself. I will remain curious, inquisitive, and determined to see my goals to their completion.

Wednesday Practices: Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga began in India centuries ago, with roots in texts like the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The aim is balance, ha means sun, tha means moon, bringing steadiness to body, breath, and mind. It uses postures, breath work, simple seals, and focused attention to build strength with calm.

Benefits include improved mobility and joint health, better posture and core stability, stronger balance and body awareness, a calmer nervous system through slow nasal breathing, and a clearer mood after practice.

I am new to Hatha, and Brielle, my fitness class instructor, , is guiding me and showing me the ropes.

Monday People: Princess Diana

Princess Diana is one of my Council members, a mentor I visit in meditation for guidance. She reminds me to lead with heart, to choose people over protocol, and to show up with courage and grace.

Her humanitarian work opened conversations about HIV AIDS, landmines, homelessness, and mental health. She used visibility for impact, brought warmth to public life, and met people where they were, presence first, fame second.

What I take from her today is simple, serve someone nearby, speak truth with kindness, listen fully, and let compassion guide the next action.
