The Provincial Championships were held on Saturday, August 15 at Koocanusa Village. Over 50 athletes competed in several different divisions including Juniors, Amateur, Masters, and Pro with riders coming from as close as Koocanusa Village to as far away as Victoria and parts of Alberta.

A number of local East Kootenay riders stepped onto the podium, including in the Pro Divisions, with Fernie’s Caroline Villeneuve taking third place in Pro Women’s Skim and Koocanusa-based surfer Emily Agate taking second in Pro Women’s Surf.

This year for Hunter Kirschner’s birthday, things are looking a little different.

He’s decided he’d like to give back to the community that’s given him so much over the last almost 4 years and will be fundraising for the Elk River Alliance!

3 mountain summits.
37km.
3000m elevation.
One big push.

His goal is to raise $1000 as they are a donation based, non-profit organization that works directly with one of the most important pillars of this beautiful community, the Elk River. The organization is important to me because in some way, shape, or form, the Elk River impacts all of our lives in the Elk Valley.

He will have a link set up to a Gofundme in his bio, as well as the comments on the post. Alternatively there is a QR code on the poster as well.

Any donations go a long way, and even if you are not in the position to donate, a simple share will help so much in reaching his goal!

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.
