Weren't allowed to listen to certain bands? Not allowed to watch a specific show? Do certain things?

I went to elementary school with someone who's parents wouldn't let him play with Pokémon cards (this was in the early 2000s at the height of Pokémon) Also, my wife has told me many times they weren't allowed to watch music videos growing up - Jayson
