My feature documentary Northern Venture just won Best Cinematography and Best Editing at the Crown Point International Film Festival in Chicago. Right now, it's making the festival rounds and connecting strongly with film festival audiences. It's a journey across4 of the 5 Great Lakes. I spent a year with the men and women behind the midway.
I wanted to understand this world, its history and traditions, and what it takes to bring a modern carnival to life, move it from town to town, and live on the road for months at a time. What I discovered was a world of family, tradition, enormous investment, long days, hard work, laughter, and exhaustion. The Showman takes you inside this world, somewhere most carnival visitors never get to see. You've seen their carnival. Now see their world. The Showman.

Some amazing news for The Northern Venture this week!
My newest documentary, The Northern Venture, will be released in select theatres beginning October 26. Before it even reaches the big screen, it has already received an official selection in Los Angeles and advanced to the quarterfinals at the Oniros Film Awards in New York.
This also makes it my fourth feature-length documentary in just over two years to receive international accolades. I want to thank everyone who's offered words of encouragement, called, stopped in, or taken the time to talk with me about the films. I truly appreciate the interest and support.
There's still a long way to go with The Northern Venture, but it's certainly an exciting way to begin its journey. Northern Venture coming to select theatres beginning October 26.

Two years after the original doc, this new film revisits Lake Erie, where perch and smelt have declined, but pickerel remain strong.
Why are some species struggling while others thrive? Seeking clarity, Granger travels across Ontario and Ohio, sitting down with commercial fishermen, fisheries biologists, and leading researchers. Together, their insights reveal just how layered and complicated the story really is. The film doesn't hand down simple conclusions.
