Data Centres are absolutely 100% not water dependent.
This is just a simple cooling issue, many such centres are Air Cooled, not choosing to build them in the hottest place Amazon can find helps a lot.
Any form of Air Conditioning/Refrigeration will work, simple heat pump air conditioning would work brilliantly, and of course same as with the air cooled option, build them in Denver, or Montana and the cooling costs will amount to a few weeks in mid-summer, the rest of the time the outside air is adequate.
This is people with massive amounts of money, looking for every tiny incremental improvement to their already massive bottom line.
When Bezo's says "Gimme your water rights or I won't build it", that doesn't mean the data centre "needs" it, it means that Bezos is opposed to paying the operating costs in that area, and for whatever meaningless reason doesn't want to build where it would make more sense in the first place.
In other words, they are lying, because they think we are all educationally impaired and stupid.
It's thermodynamics Mr Bezos, and water has SFA to do with it.
