Doc Alliance is a network of 7 European film festivals. Our aim is to advance and promote the art of documentary film.

Doc Alliance is the result of a long-term creative partnership of seven key European documentary film festivals. Our aim is to advance the art of documentary film, support its diversity and continuously promote creative documentary films. The Doc Alliance festivals are:

With joint forces the

Doc Alliance festivals created DAFilms.com, a VOD platform to makes you discover 4,000+ outstanding documentary and experimental films. DAFilms presents a continually-updated, curated selection of the finest auteur-driven documentary cinema from the world of film festivals. In 2008, the seven festival partners introduced the annual Doc Alliance Award competition honoring feature-length films by emerging European filmmakers. A second award category for short films was added in 2021. The Doc Alliance Award competition is an important support system for new talents to continue on their film career, both helping bolster their position as artists seeking financial support for upcoming films and in helping their work reach new audiences at home and abroad. Each festival annually nominates one feature-length and one short film from its programme for the prizes. The winners are decided by an independent jury. From 2023, the network will expand its circle and annually invite a guest festival to also nominate candidates for the Doc Alliance Awards and host the award ceremony. This year, we welcome Dokufest in Prizren as our guest partner!

Say hello to this year’s Doc Alliance Award Jury! 👋

The award winners will be revealed in May at Cannes Docs – and these three film experts will make the call:

👁️ Wouter Jansen is the founder of the sales company Square Eyes and an expert for Locarno Open Doors and First Cut Lab. He regularly engages in selection committees for funding bodies and industry programmes.

🎞️ María Palacios Cruz is a film curator, writer and educator. She has been the director of Open City Documentary Festival in London since 2021, is a co-founder of The Visible Press and regularly writes on artists’ moving image and avant-garde cinema.

✍️ Mark Peranson is a programmer, writer, producer, filmmaker and former editor/publisher of Cinema Scope magazine. He is currently producing a series of short films for the Museo Nationale di Cinema in Turin, and curating a screening series and writing a book on films and museums.

👀 Already one month ago! We had a grand time at the 's Doc Salon. After a croissant-laden breakfast, we dove into the interconnected ecosystems that film festivals may function as across Europe. What does that mean?

Our research started with this idea: networks of film festivals can play a key role in advancing inclusive programming! If films, filmmakers and perspectives circulate across borders, markets and audiences, emerging and underrepresented voices can gain more visibility and sustainability.

As a network, we can create important bridges between artistic visibility and professional continuity, supporting filmmakers' transition from early recognition to long-term careers. Food for thought? Certainly! Thank you all for an inspiring day and the manifold valuable input. We love to continue this conversation 🥰
